As sgtlm17 and Netgain are pointing out, the word "flooded" you are seeing on the display is simply the battery type. It's also called a "wet cell" battery.

The links above may help you understand the battery types of:
Wet cell (flooded),
gel cell, and
absorbed glass mat (AGM) are various versions of the lead acid battery. The wet cell comes in two styles; serviceable and maintenance free.
The
gel cell and the
AGM batteries are specialty batteries that typically cost twice as much as a premium wet cell. However, they store very well and do not tend to sulfate or degrade as easily as wet cell. There is little chance of a hydrogen gas explosion or corrosion when using these batteries; they are the safest lead acid batteries you can use. Gel cell and some AGM batteries may require a special charging rate.
It's this charging rate, which is why you select which of the three (or more) types of battery you have in your panel, which will be either 1.Flooded (WET), 2. AGM, 3.GEL (aka sealed), and maybe 4. Calcium, 5. Lithium, 6. LiFePO4
As stated, the term "Flooded" is just a battery type......and nothing your husband did. It just depends on the brand/type solar controller you have, as to which battery type term they may use.
Here is an example of one using "Flooded"
You also may want to find out exactly what battery type your solar controller is connected to in your RV, and make sure it's correctly selected as the type on your solar controller.
