It has to be manhandled. Checking and adding air is also difficult without a special dually air chuck unless the spare is removed.
I installed an Econoline spare tire winch. Makes lowering the tire a snap and also the tire can be secured with the air valve down and easily accessible for checking and adding air. You also need an Econoline jack handle or something like it to crank it down. I bought new takeouts on ebay for the winch, jack, handle, and lug wrench. Just checked and there are lots available on Ebay but much more costly than they were 2 years ago. Guess they now realize these items normally just discarded from box truck conversions are now sought after by Class C RVers.
