Hate to ask, could someone post a picture showing how the safety chain on the spare tire is used. I would like to put it back the way it was. Thank you.

What kind of unit. I've never seen a spare tire safety chain.
Sorry. 2014 3170 E450. It is mounted up with a bolt, nut and short cross tube. The safety chain was attached in some manner. It appeared that the chain kept the tire from falling to the ground. The chain is about 4ft long with a cert tag of 5000lbs.
As you can see, it is long. Tire people did not have a clue. Maybe Josh can chime in.

Before I moved my spare to a hitch mount, it was under the rear frame, using a threaded bolt/nut to hold it up. Had a chain exactly like yours. It's ment to wrap the spare to the cross member that holds the spare.
Wraps around the member, thru the wheel holes, and your supposed to have or buy a pad lock to lock two links. Acts as a "safety" chain so spare can't fall, and as a theft device (with pad lock)

Sorry but our Sunseeker is in storage so I can't take a photo of the wheel and chain installed, but here's how the chain goes across the spare tire support frame. Once you get the tire up high enough, run the chain through two of the wheel holes. When you have the nut run up tight on the stud, tighten the chain as much as you can. Be sure the tire valve stem is pointing down so you can check the tire pressure.

I can testify to the weight and difficulty in dropping and stowing the spare on my Sunseeker. When I updated my tires 5 years ago the husky young guy was able to lower the spare by himself. When it came to stow the new spare tire it took 2 of us to take care of things. The tire shop manager did his Mr Universe he-man bench press thing while I spun the nut on the stud.
When I blew the right inside dual in April the roadside tech and I lowered the spare and put the bad tire back up without much trouble. Like said above the chain is looped around the frame on the motorhome and through the hand holes in the rim.
Moved my spare to rear storage compartment,bolted to wall,easier for me to get at otherwise I m waiting for AAA

I certainly don't have the strength to bench press my spare back into place, so I stacked some leveling blocks (aka Legos) and tilted the spare onto the blocks. With the blocks supporting most of the spare's weight, it was easy to lift the other side of the spare and put on the nut.
If I have to use the spare on the road, I won't take the time to do this. I'll just put the one I removed in the rear compartment or the back of our toad.
I also included photos of the adapter I made to safely use a bottle jack on the E450's front axle jack pins. It's made from a black iron pipe cap and a piece of pipe.

Why in the World would "they/you" not use a "Cable Lift" on a spare like a P/U truck?? Lifting a spare from the ground Under a RV "NO WAY"! Youroo!! And yes you can place a "Safety Chain" around it! Pic of our spare cable lifted into the frame of our RV!

Agreed. I bought a new takeout Econoline 450 spare tire cable lift on Ebay and installed it on my Sunseeker. About $60 and included the jack, crank handle which is used for the winch/jack, and lug wrench. Some box truck conversions don't use them and then sell them on Ebay.

Hi RamblerGuy, I just bought a E-450 based class C and am researching how to jack up the front end. Could you have just placed your bottle jack a little ways away from the pin on the Iframe?
On the spare tire winch, it should at least be an option. Here is a link to the first of June when I installed a spare tire winch. Yep, still using the safety chain.
