Sunseeker 3170 hot water operation

I have a 2012 Sunseeker. I'm curious of how to operate the hot water heater. If I'm plugged into electric, should the water heater operate off electric? Do I need to flip the water heater switch above the fridge? Or is that only when I'm not plugged in and need to use LP?

Most times you can select either gas or electric
or both gas and electric at the same time plugged into shore power or not.

I have a 2011, 3170DS. The switch above the fridge is to turn the water heater on\off. If you want to operate on electric remove the metal cover to the water heater outside. There is a small-black on\off switch behind this cover above the anode rod, this is for electric heater operation. Remeber to turn the propane off, it is located outside so that you don't accidentally operate them together.

To operate on electric turn on the switch located outside behind the cover for the water heater. There is a small cotter pin that you have to remove to allow the switch to turn on. Make sure there is water in the tank as the electrode will burn out very quickly if there is no water and you plug into shore power. To operate on propane (make sure propane is on) then flip switch inside marked "water heater". You can operate on both electric and gas at the same time. This will help recover hot water at times of high usage since gas heats the water faster.

Most people use electric when available and switch on gas only when electric is not available or for a short time of high usage like morning showers. If you need to reduce electric usage while on generator make sure to turn off outside switch. Also when you drain the tank (like to winterize) make sure to turn off the electric switch so you don't accidentally apply power with no water in the tank.
