Theater seating issue.

We have a 2017 forester and the theater seats do not stay Back when they are reclined. Is there something I can do to fix this ? I don’t want to replace them

Is it the stationary sofa with the front recliner? If so you can try adjusting the cable on the latch. We found using our foot to press on the side where the latch catches would lock it in place, kinda a PIA but it worked.

Dave, my wife hated the theater seats, she is on the light side and the seat would never stay where she wanted it.

we looked around and found free standing swivel chairs with a foot rest built in.
I removed the original seats and extended the slide floor about 8 inches out from the wall and recovered the floor with the same vinyl used in the rest of the coach.

Momma is now happy, but I really felt bad tossing the theater seats into the dumpster, they weren't even a year old.

We got a new unit due to a tree falling on the old one, we were in the process of looking for new recliners for ours until it was totaled, the new unit didn’t have recliners so we decided to installed these. Huge improvement. We were able to sell the existing sofa for 350.00.

Thomas Payne collection from CW. They were on sale for about 1200. They have power recline, heat and massage, under lighting too. Much more comfortable than the stock unit. Didn’t take long to install them.

We have the same seats and I also found this annoying. After a while I discovered if you push back hard enough against the wall the seat stays back. But anything short of that, yeah, they don't stay in place....

I just figured out that the rivets at the pivot points don’t put enough pressure and let the seat slide back. I have removed selected rivets and replaced them with bolts with nylocks. This will allow me to adjust tension on them by tightening them up. The rivets are 5/16 so the nuts and bolts are readily available. I have done one set of rivets so far with good results, going to do another set ( 4 total per chair ) I’ll post before and after pics soon.

Theater seating issue. Fixed

Here are a some pictures of what the problem turned out to be and the fix. I can tighten the bolts or make stiffer if needed. My wife says this took care of the issue. No more sinking back all the time

I’ve found out the same. They don’t operate like the typical Lazy Boy. Pull the lanyard, and press the seat back about 70%, the leg rest will lock. If you don’t get it back far enough, the weight of your legs pushes the leg rest down.
