Tire time

My Michelin’s are celebrating their 5th birthday next week and I have an appointment to re shoe the rig ( ‘14 2860DS) tomorrow
I have noticed the start of cracking on one rear tire and the fronts are cupped from before my alignment two years ago
Anyway the Truck shop I use for this stuff offered me a good deal on the BF Goodrich LTs and I have read mixed reviews.
The most common knock is tread life.
That’s not a problem for me because we aren’t retired yet and we Camp as opposed to Travel.
The OE Michelin’s have 14000 miles on them into our 4th season
Anyone that has experience with and input on the BF Goodrich,I’d love to hear from you
Thanks, TR

no major problem with the generals

I have a love/hate relationship with mich. Easy 50m on the 17"s mich for DW's Avalon, working past 55m on a f150 michs with some weather checking, but gave lousy side wall support on my last f250 with 20". As you have prob noticed there seems to be many 22" class A that are very happy with mich.

I wonder about the lifespan of heavy load bearing tires from mich that are not bus rated.

Our C came with Generals and at 20m plus they show little if any wear in tread, and no cracking. They do not sing or vibrate. So I am may stay with the brand if they seem durable past 55m.

What "drove" you to BF if I may ask.

I have had good experience with their car tires
And the Shop gave me a good price
Goodyear’s were recommended as a less expensive alternative to Michelin’s and the Goodrich originally were the same price but I got them $20 off retail a piece
As I said earlier we don’t put a lot of miles on the rig and I’m ready to try something different
I do buy Michelin Tires for my motorcycles
They are really great tires for the sport tour bikes but the premature side wall cracking and premium price has turned me off from the LT tires

size

Lt225 75r16 or larger? I am interested in how the swap to BF works out for you. Sounds like you may be on a ford chas, if so do you currently have rubber valve stems?

Sounds good. My rear tires (rims) have been on the coach since birth. Are you inclined to rotate the new tires? I went for no on the factory set, not so sure with new shoes...

I didnt rotate on the Factory Tires
but talking to people I may rotate at least to get the outer tires out of full sun exposure year after year
Although I do cover them when not in use

I’m not sure if it’s worth it but CoachNet has a discount tire buying service for some brands (I think Michelin and Goodyear). Look like 15% off. Not familiar with the details. My rubber is new so it will be awhile for me.

General makes general grabber tire will go to 90 psi and has a greater load carrying capacity. At least check them out, my brother, who runs large equipment says the grabber is a good tire.

I just had my 2860 DS outfitted with a set of Bridgestone Duravis R500HD tires (LT225/75R16). I too noticed a notable more smoother ride with these tires. The dealer said that the local FedEx trucks use these. The Bridgestones replace a set of 4 year old Mastercrafts, one of which experienced tread seperation a month ago on the way back from Florida.

A bit of an update and apologize for starting this old thread up.
I purchased a set of Michelin 225/75R16 XPS ribbed tires for my 2014 Sunseeker. Currently on a long trip around the New England states. I have put 1,245 miles on the tires. No issues to report. I can tell that they ride a bit stiffer but are smooth, quite and tracks well in the rain. So far, I like them.

Smooth, quiet and good wet traction are all good things. I have 4000 mi on my OEM Hankooks now and they are smooth with good wet traction but quiet they are not.

Trouble with Original Michelins

My 2013 Sunseeker came with Michelins. At about 13,000 miles I lost the tread off the passenger side inside dually. Repalced both tires with BF Goodrich. At about 17,000 miles I lost the tread on the driver side outside dually. Only Kelly tires available so that's what is now on there. Again, replaced both tires.

Just returned from the trip on which I lost the driver side tire. Took the rig to my local tire shop and had the two remaining original Michelins yanked off the front before I lose the tread from one of those. Put BF Goodrich on.

There was no sign of aging etc. on those tires. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Thanks

Tire time

On my 2014 3170, back in February I had my 2nd tire issue. Mine lost its tread on the drivers inside rear dully. Never went flat so TPMS never alarmed. I blamed it on the pothole riddled I20. I had already decided to replace my tires. My Michelins were 7 years old with 17k miles.
Your tires may be aged out. I think I ran mine too long. They were also in great shape from appearance. I checked air Psi before every trip.
Read back on this thread and others. Different folks chose different branded tires. I went with Michelin XPS tires as noted. Generals are chosen by others.
Check your tire age, they will age out before wear out. You are not alone in this discussion.

Is not “losing” a tire tread a sign of aging? (albeit a larger neon sign)
