We just got a Toad vehicle modified wired and ready to tow....
One decision left with three options.
1) Do we buy a deflector made for the tow bar (in this case a Demco Sentry Deflector) at about $400.00.....
2) Do we put rubber guards on the back of the Sunseeker for about $120.00......
3) Do nothing as the stone and road debris issue much ado about very little.(FYI our toad vehicle is a 2005 Jeep Liberty so it is not like I am protecting a brand new vehicle paint job)
Any experience or thoughts from those who have been down this path is appreciated.
I mounted the Ultra Guard 94"x16" on our 3170DS, bought it from camping world online for $98. If you decide to buy this also get the angled steel kit for $28. Other wise you will need your own brackets. Install is faily easy, just drill a few holes in the frame behind the hitch.
So in looking at installation instructions it appears the hardware comes to attach the guard to the angle bracket but not the angle bracket to the frame...is this correct
We have towed a 1997 Pathfinder with our Sunseeker for 28,000 miles with no deflector or other type of protector. The Pathfinder gets very dirty sometimes (see photo) but we haven't seen any significant damage from rocks or debris.
I would do something to protect a toad if we drove the Alaska highway or other roads that can be rough.
By the way, the photo was of dirt and gravel fill on US 12 in South Dakota. The road had flooded and they hauled in fill so they could get one lane above water. This was the morning after I washed both the Sunseeker and the Pathfinder.

I installed this unit on my 3050S, I bought the angle iron and a couple of extra sets of nut and bolts. I went one size up for bolting to the frame.
