Traveling with fresh water tank full in MH.

Is it okay to travel with a full fresh water tank? I've never done it because we always camp with full hookup, but I'm boondocking next weekend.

I do it every time I travel. In high winds it really helps with stability. But then again, I rest stop camp and boondocks more than the average bear.

At times I do with ours. Depends on the game plan. Usually just a quarter or third of a tank. When starting our winter treck south, then a full tank since one we stop at in Maryland only has electric during the winter. This is Jan or Feb.

There's another thread on this with responses ranging from "been doing it for decades. If they didn't want me to do it, they shouldn't have put a tank there" to "you'll put your eye out, kid!"

We do it quite often, but I can tell you that for us, a full FW tank negatively affects stability quite a bit. I'm going to reset the hitch as it was originally set up to travel empty and see if that helps.

Note:New campers. Only been at it two years. Probably 20 or so trips and all but two were within 75 miles of home. F-150 pulling a 2906WS. Fully loaded with water it's at 8080.

I'm always loaded with water. Never know where I may stop and how much I need.

There have been problems reported here on the forum with Roo and Mini/Micro-Lite trailers, where the tank supports are not as robust as perhaps they should be, but I've not seen any threads reporting any major issues with Class A's or C's.

It depends on your ccw. Looks like the 3170 is at 2100 lbs. 7 lb water x 44 is 308. Even with a toad on level ground you would be fine, unless you pack well over the 1500 lbs of bs. We always travel will full fresh water, but we are talking coaches where water is right and center to the center line of rear axle on ours. After about 3hrs on the road the grey and black take some of the load to the left side.

A gallon of water is 8.3 lbs. We don[t boondock and only carry enough water to flush the toilet and wash hands. Don't want to carry the weight. Would rather carry a gallon or two of Scotch

I typically don't carry water in the tanks. I usually keep a couple 1 gallon jugs that I refill at home or gas stations for toilet flushing or hand washing. It's the end of season here, and many campgrounds have their water off already, I don't have any options for filling my tanks before I get to the property.

Don't see any problem and i never worry about it. When full, the only real issue is weight but it's like carring another person at worst. So what?

I always do, because I have great water at my home, and who knows whether to trust whether the water at destinations is good. Also you want water for the toilet if you stop along the road with the need to go. Watch thought that the water doesn't siphon out the overflow tube as you drive down the highways.

You can travel in your class C with full fresh water no problem. We do at times in our Lexington when we are sure what the trip will bring. 30,000 miles with this MH, so experience tells. Will just be some weight, and if just you, no problem at all unless you are hauling rocks!

45 gals X 8.3 lbs per gal = 373.5 lbs so more like two extra people depending on the people. In a trailer it is also where the weight is, you don't carry people in your trailer that weight is in your tow vehicle. Difference in your performance for towing. It also does lessen your fuel economy. Would be different in a MH but still extra weight.

Some people carry about a 1/4 to a 1/3 of a tank just for emergencies and to have some to flush the toilet if needed.

Really why would anyone carry water instead of a nice single malt?

If I was boon docking I'd have no hesitation to fill it
We camp strictly full hook so I fill 1/3 for on board travel water just to save weight and get better gas mileage
