Traveling with fresh water tank full in MH.

I carry maybe 1/4 tank of fresh water, I would never travel with a Full tank. you guys may have not seen them but i have seen several threads about FW tanks falling out while being towed with a full FW tank. you can always find a place to fill up before dry camping if you look around when fueling

I always fill my FW, about 2/3 full but we have a 5er and if you don't it will chuck the hell out of you. Plan on putting airbags on it in the spring.

The original poster has a Sunseeker Class C. The fresh water tank is above the frame. It's not very likely to fall out. I can see how a poorly mounted tank behind the axles of a bouncing trailer could break loose.

I alway travel with at least 1/2 fresh water. There have been situations where I broke down and spent the night on a parking lot, as well as when we arrived at a full hook-up campground to find their water contaminated. One of the purposes of having an RV is to be self sufficient.

Our fw tank is located under the bed and just behind the rear axle. Full tank, like yours forty-some gallons, gives the suspension just a little sag and improves the ride a lot while making almost no diff. on mpg. Also helps stabilize in cross winds.

Agree with Wolverine because it is good to know your water. We just did 4 days in the MH near Petoskey and Manistee in parks with full hook ups and did not even get out the water hose. Last winter on our trip to Alabama and Florida we did not use any cg water.
With our last TT I did not want to haul the water and we had some issues with CG water. Now I like to "refresh" the fw system between trips.

We had a TT for about 8 years and have had our MH for 3 years,,, have never had to change an anode rod !!! Would never use CG water unless we had to !!!

I go to the open dezert camping all the time. Full tanks plus an additional 6 gal jug if needed all the time. No issues with my Lance camper, Trail Lite TT or now a Forester 2251.

I usually put a tablespoon of baking soda in with the fill and try to leave 1/4- 1/3 tank in there when not in use for emergencies.

Prefer our own water on trips at least till we run out.
Over eight 1500+mile trips with no problem so far.

In a trailer it is also where the weight is, you don't carry people in your trailer that weight is in your tow vehicle. Difference in your performance for towing. It also does lessen your fuel economy. Would be different in a MH but still extra weight.

Some people carry about a 1/4 to a 1/3 of a tank just for emergencies and to have some to flush the toilet if needed.

Really why would anyone carry water instead of a nice single malt?

This is a motorhome, not a travel trailer. The fresh water tank isn't hanging from brackets on the under belly, it's actually sitting on the floor of the motorhome. And since my motorhome accommodates eight passengers and a toad. I think driving with a full tank will be okay, since I will be the only passenger and no toad.

I love all the help, but PLEASE don't respond if you don't have a motorhome. The tanks are set up differently than travel trailer. No way in hell would I travel with a full tank with a travel trailer.

We had a 2005 Flagstaff TT that we traveled with a full FW tank for 8 years !!!
Good luck on your Deer Hunt,,, you could have had the one in our front yard this morning !!! LOL !!!

Be careful not to get one with a disease !!!

Did someone say deer ?!?!? Good luck on your hunt hopefully the taste of those backstraps will make all the stress worth it . Ill be in Idaho in 2 weeks trying to get a freezer full myself .

BTW I have a TT and I always travel with a full tank of water I dont have a choice my water at home is super good and we're boondockers .
