Want to add-back a vent-hood to my 2020 3011

Many of us agree that removing the vent hood and moving the microwave was an unfortunate move on the 2020 Foresters. I want to add-back a vent hood. I was wondering if any structural changes within the wall were also made which would cause an undo surprise while cutting in the outside vent?

I have always wondered if anybody has ever installed something like a MaxxFan on the side wall of their RV to use as a kitchen exhaust fan. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, and I believe the side wall should be thick enough for it.

Based on these installation instructions, it will work. Can you imagine having an available 900CFM exhaust fan for your kitchen? I think this would be awesome if you have enough room for it.

I am opting to keep it simple. There is 12VDC available right there on the plate that they replaced the range hood with. You can pick up a range hood online for a hundred bucks.

It would be nice if a Forest River rep would respond to the question of whether the outside wall framing was changed after the removal of the range hood vent. Outside of that, if you observe the outside wall on a cool morning when it has dew or frost on it, you can usually see where the framing is inside the wall. Also note that the Forester Classic exterior walls should be 2 inches thick, where the industry norm is more like 1.5 inch.

Fortunately, we got our 2020 model built about two months before FR took away the range hood.

But don't blow out the range burners.

I thought of that, but these fans have a wide range of velocity.

Ditto. Two friends were so impressed with our full-featured 2020 Forester 3011 that they both headed to dealers to spec and purchase their own. Experienced RVer’s, they each said they were “startled” by the late 2020/21 feature changes, which had them both (independently) decide to forego not only the 3011 they once so strongly desired, but Forest River motorhomes completely. Their unsolicited comments were that “Forest River lost their way”. Hearing that made me sad.

One just purchased a Jayco, and the other is still shopping but did ask me if we would consider selling ours.

Feeling very lucky that our 2020 Forester 3011DS was built to the 2019 specs before the oven changes. I don't know why they thought the range hood was no longer needed; the cooktop still has burners that make major heat whether the oven is there or not!!
go figure.
