Water pump

We are winterizing, and wondered if we can just drain the pump.

When I winterized years ago, I just removed the pump and took it inside.

You certainly could. Disconnect both sides and run it a little to ensure it's clear.
Of course you still have to winterize the rest of the plumbing system.

If you use the pump to pump antifreeze into the system you will have the pump protected and don't need to do anything else.
