We Did It - New Unit Ordered!
My husband and I have had rv's since we were married in 1977. First a pop-up, then a fifth wheel, then 2 used Class C motor homes, then a Winnebago Class C, purchased new in 2001. We sold our 2001 Winnebago in September 2015 and started looking for a replacement in February 2016.
Since my husband will only purchase a Chevy, finding a replacement was not an easy task. After reviewing floor plans and manufacturers, we decided we wanted a 2860DS Sunseeker or 2861DS Forester but were not able to find one - or order one - anywhere. We were told by several dealers that Forest River could no longer get the Chevy chassis for their Class C's. So we waited...and waited...and finally...SUCCESS! Forest River could now get the Chevy chassis!! We placed an order this week with RV Wholesalers for a 2017 Forester 2861DS. Expected completed build date is about 8 - 10 weeks away, but will probably be impacted by the Thanksgiving holiday. We live in the Finger Lakes region of New York state, (no shortage of snow and ice in the winter here!) so we're hoping for a window of relatively good weather when our pickup date becomes known and the trip to RV Wholesalers in Ohio takes place.
I've been reading this forum since February 2015 and greatly appreciate all of the information you all have provided. If anyone has additional tips / hints / advice for us, feel free to comment.
And yes, the Eternabond tape is already on order!!

Congrats on your new rig! Oh I hear you on the snow and ice issues. Last trip coming up for us this weekend for Canadian Thanksgiving. Are you heading south this winter or hunkering down counting the days to camping season?

Congratulations on getting, well ordering, you newest motorhome.
Is Kayley a Shih Tzu? Does she travel with you?
I have six Shih Tzu that travel with me in my 2016 Forester 2701DS. In fact, I bought this motorhome to be able to travel to lots of Dog Shows and show some of my furbabies! I've converted the sofa into a shelf which holds six dog crates to keep my babies safe in. Works out well and is VERY study.
I've also decorated the entire Motorhome in Shih Tzu "stuff".

Vicki F, thank you!
Yes, Kayley is a Shih Tzu. She will be 3 years old next week. They are great dogs! Such personality! We had 3 cocker spaniels over the course of 25 years, with the last one being extra special. When she passed we knew we just couldn't get another cocker spaniel - Amber had been too special to ever think about getting another cocker so we decided to go with another breed of dog. We are so happy we settled on a shih tzu.
Kayley does travel with us. At 11 pounds, she is just the right size for us and the motor home. We got her after we retired so she is just about always with us. Using the motor home for traveling to dog shows sounds ideal!
When we got Kayley we had to choose between her and her sister. We often wonder where her sister is now and have said several times that we should have taken both! But I don't know about six!!!

Congratulations on your new motorhome order! How exciting!
We're also considering ordering from RV Wholesalers. Wish we were closer though. We're in California and can't imagine traveling that distance in the winter. Looks like we'll have to wait to place an order to hit it by spring.
Anyway, we've owned class c motor homes since 1992. We sold our last motor home in May of 2015 just before our move from Utah to California. We've been without an RV or any camping gear since then, and I truly miss camping. Hopefully we'll find something soon.
I was curious as to how the tax and licensing works when purchasing out of state. A local RV salesperson told us we'd have to pay tax twice if purchasing out of state. That didn't seem right. California tax and licensing will run us close to 10%, so I can't imagine paying Ohio and California tax.
Have fun in your new motor home!

I have never heard of anyone paying tax twice. Typically tax is paid where the vehicle will be titled and registered. Some out of state dealers will collect the tax for your state. Most will not and you will pay tax at your local dmv.
And congrats on the new rig.

Okay, I spoke with a rep from RVW because I thought that was definitely a line that salesperson gave me. Honestly, the tactics they use to get your business are definitely unethical! How it works for our state is RVW in Ohio has an agreement with the state of California to collect 6% tax, and then in 45 days when you register the motor home, we pay the difference in tax. So if California is close to 10% and Ohio collected 6%, then we just pay the difference of 4% when we go to register the motor home in our state. So what the rep told me was deceptive to say the least.

Yea that sounds right. . Some dealers prey on the uninformed buyer. . I purchased out of state. . The dealer was not certified to collect tax for my state. . I paid all sales tax when I registered and titled it at my dmv

Yep Camperroo, the salesman was lying.
That's how it was when we bought our Roo in Chicago.
They collected the 6% and we paid the balance when we registered it in California.

Thanks, guys. I've been doing a lot of research when it comes to price. It pays to be a completely informed buyer! Fortunately, I can usually tell when a salesperson is bullying me with their deceptive sales tactics. I question everything! When it comes time to pull the trigger on a deal I want to know I got the best deal possible.

Congrats.
Luv my Chevy so far.
My neighbor just bought a 3010 from RVW in Ohio and drove it back to So Cali.
Saved a bunch and broke it in themselves.
