What is this

Drove the Forester out for a couple nights of camping and when I returned home I found this metal “plate” laying on the ground under where the MH was parked. Piece of flat steel, 7x30 inches with one side having the edges turned 90 degrees.

The part has eight holes but there is no scratches or other indications there was a fastener there to hold it in place. It has a dirt pattern indicating it had water splatter like you would see on a dirt road. Crawled around under the MH but didn’t see any obvious location for it. It looks like some kind of splash guard but I really don’t have a clue as to what it is.

??????

Just askin’.......

Did you have a good look underneath with slides IN and OUT?
Sometimes the undercarriage looks different.

Full wall slide on the 3051 sits well above the chassis and the view underneath doesn’t change.

Has LCI jacks. Looked in the area of both the controller and pump but can’t see any place to put the thing.

I was hoping there would be a clean area to indicate it was covered but that didn’t work. In about 9,000 miles this MH has only encountered rain for less than 50 miles. The entire underbelly is amazingly clean. Hopefully I’ll find another 3051 that I can crawl under and see if it has the part visible.

Hanging out in West Yellowstone so I just went out and took a look.

It is a heat shield between the catalytic converter & LP tank. It is spot welded to the bottom of the passenger side frame rail directly behind the LP tank. It hangs with the 90 degree bend down pointing inwards.

Thanks for your help. I went out to check the the shield you describe is in place. Here’s a pix of the offending shield sitting under the one you describe. Notice it’s smaller.

I don’t know what it’s for or where it goes but you’ve given me a great idea for a prank to play on someone.

Ohhhh, that’s cruel. Wish I had thought of that. Sorta like throwing an extra washer in the pile when someone is rebuilding a transmission.

Thanks. I’ll check that out.

MYSTERY SOLVED!

I finally gave up and called my selling dealer to make an appointment at the service department. The tech was scratching his head saying “I’ve seen that before but don’t remember where”. They put the MH up on a lift and discovered it’s a shield that goes on the inside side of the Onan generator. Nobody can figure out how it fell off since it’s going to require the generator to be removed in order to put it back.

The shop was moderately busy so I made an appointment for the fix next week. Also awaiting Forest River authorization since the coach has three weeks warranty remaining.
