A good friend and neighbor is where the rubber meets the road-errr, lot line.

We had a good friend and neighbor one time. He came over and said he had guests coming for the holiday and didn't have enough life vests to take people on his boat. So, we were happy to let him use two of ours.

Weeks later, the vests had not been returned. I went to retrieve them. What vests? We never borrowed any vests. Hmmm, he looks like the same guy and he walked to the same house. Apparently, DW and I had had a deep memory lapse. Our good friend and neighbor reminded us of that. It also reminded us to never loan anything to the neighbors. Funny how the short term and long term memories differ!

You obviously trust your neighbour so that is not an issue. I would probably start with rental agencies and go from there, charging maybe less depending on how many times you borrowed tools from him lol.

I would be very upfront about damages. The difference between a tire blowing apart from natural causes or abuse (curbing etc.). If he is a good, trusted person he should not balk at leaving a deposit with you.

You didn't ask, but I would suggest you spend some time with him behind the wheel. I know I would and wouldn't feel insulted if someone asked me to do same.
So what is your suggestion for a fair rate?

In my opinion. Anyone who would ask that question would know NOTHING about an RV...lest they would never ask.

Seems if he was that trustworthy and such a good friend and you are willing to let him use it, I would let him use it for free. No worries about renting your vehicles or commercial use of it. The money you get for a week is nothing but aggravation.

Check with Cruise America and other rental companies. What's their rates, mileage, down payment and deposit?
Cleaning fees?
How much is their insurance but more importantly what all will it cover from minor to catastrophic incidents?
It will give you an idea of what you, your neighbor or anyone else would pay.
Then you can still give him a friend neighbor deal of your choice.
Keep in mind that an incident (insurance or not) will most likely strain or ruin a good friendship and probably put your friend in a financial bind if the worst happens.

Just go in with both fully aware and everything in writing and photos from the start.

If you can get it fixed good as is now or replaced and not cost you a dime then...

X2.

As long as he gets insurance to cover the rig, you should let him borrow it. Perhaps he could buy something for you after he comes home... new tires, a gift card.....?

Goof friends are hard to find

I wouldn’t do it. He’s probably looking for a sweet deal. Could cause a lot of problems and end your friendship. There are Rental agencies on Facebook you can rent thru to cover your but. Check rates for similar units in your area. But For a friend I would’t Do it.

My expenses paid because the only way my RV is going anywhere is if I'm with it. That includes campsite fees, food and drink and first choice of Beds. I'm the free Chauffeur thats broke. Let go camping!

Thanks for any ideas!!
We rent our pop up on RVShare. I would suggest getting on there and seeing what Class C's are renting for in your area. RVShare.com.
We've made more than we paid for our pop up.

The movie "RV" is the answer to the question "What could possibly go wrong?"

I agree, but I would make sure his or your insurance covers it and I would have a written "hold harmless agreement" and agreement to indemnify you for any damages. No money, no deposit just two friends helping each other out.

Like I wrote in my post, start with what a local rental agency charges and go from there.

Not difficult.

Just give anybody that asks to borrow or rent your RV the number to Cruise America and bid them a happy adventure.

As long as the friend and I could satisfied ourselves with our respective insurance brokers that all would be aok should an accident happen I would do as others have suggested and loan it rather than rent it. If he elected to give you a thank you gift approximately in the amount a rental agency would charge for a similar unit so much better. Who knows - if they love the experience you may gain some future camping companions.

I would print this thread and let your trusted neighbor read it.

Then I would offer to help him find a good RV rental agency and help him with the selection.

BTW, I would NEVER borrow or rent a friend's RV, for reasons too numerous to list here. I did once when my uncle offered decades ago and I was too young to know better. No damage or mishap, but I recall that getting it cleaned up after my guests left to what I considered his standards in the time I had available was more trouble than using my usual tents.
