See Wm Tire's Post #6. That is the same manual I referenced when I closed my awning. The manual states the awning is under spring tension and is the reason for inserting the strap while removing the bolts. My awning, however, did not move. The technicians later determined that the motor being completely frozen overcame any spring tension. As stated in my post, I rolled it up by hand (in a pouring rain storm) and reinserted 1 of the 2 bolts (the other was lost in the mud). Hope that answers all your exclamation points.
