Why does ignition switch need to be on

I have a 2019 Forester- 3051SF, This has the one control system and in order to work the awning, slide or levelers the ignition switch needs to be on. Is this normal? Also what are folks comments on the one control system. I for one am not happy with it.

If that is a requirement for your unit, the engine needs to be running (not just ignition switch on) to supply supplemental power to the coach batteries from the engine alternator. Different coaches are interconnected differently with regards to those items you mention. Sometimes no rhyme or reason.

From reading this forum, Forest River - Forester/Sunseeker seems to be inconsistent in their logic used for interlocks on the awning, slides, jacks, etc. My 2020 makes sense, in that the awning works only without the key on, but the slides require the key on. I run the engine for leveler operation to give the hydraulic pump adequate power.

I think the logic for those accessories on my Sunseeker is in the wiring of the battery control center in the coach stepwell. Maybe you could reconfigure your Forester if that was the case with yours.

As for your question about the One Control system, I intentionally avoided that system when shopping as I definitely didn’t want it, thus I bought a Sunseeker with plain old switches instead of a Forester. With plain switches I was able to easily put dimmers on most of my lights. I heard the newer Forester Classics no longer use One Control.

I've got the One Control and would prefer standard switches. With One Control you induce all these controllers which in my opinion just represents another possible point of failure. In addition, it seems that no one can tell me where each controller is located in case of failure. I wish that Forest River had a document showing the location of each controller per particular model.

My 2017 GT5 require the ignition “ON” for the jacks, “OFF” for the awning, and doesn’t care regarding the slides.

in 2019 models FR changed the lockout operation of the slides and awning to prevent their use without the ignition on. It can be changed back to how it previously operated without the ignition on by moving one wire in the BCC.

in the 3010/3011 models you will find most of the One Control modules along with a rats nest of wires under the drawers in the bedroom. you will need to remove the drawer(s) to access. There are also fuses in the modules for at least water pump & lights.

Do you have any idea which wire needs to be moved???? I don't mind running the camper for the leveling and slides but the awning is a pain in the butt.

If you can post a clear picture of the small circuit board inside the BCC as well as the cover with the legend I will try to determine what changed.

Also do the slide & awning icons on the one control touch screen disappear or grey out when the ignition is off

Don't know if it's a feasible change for you but the Georgetown awning is fused directly off the coach battery.

For the most part your pics match what I had in my late 2017 3051. Even though I traded the coach I never get rid of documentation .

I think we may have traded notes on your coach previously. Your 2 wires red & orange that have been removed from J11 & J12 solved the ignition lockout for your slides & awning (I guess it changed in 2018). This is the simplest way of solving the issue. As an alternative you can also swap the wires connected to ignition locked out terminals J2, J4, J6, & J14 (in your case only J4 & J14 are used) to some of the unused non lock out terminals J3 & J5.

Also the connection diagram that shows the coach & chassis battery connection studs are reversed the top one is Coach, bottom is chassis. Mine were misprinted as well.

Thanks for posting your pics.
