Buffalo to Crescent City CA.

We are planning our summer trip from Western NY to Northern CA and up into Oregon and Washington coasts. We plan on taking US2 on the return leg but I would like to take a more southerly route, maybe Iowa, Nebraska, southern Idaho, to Crescent City CA. Any suggestions on a safe route to take, and things to see/do? I prefer to stay off the interstates whenever possible. We are driving a 30ft. Pursuit gas MH pulling a toad.

Any advice and suggestions are appreciated.

Why would anyone want to go to Crescent City in the summer? Foggy, cold and windy.

It's not like that all summer. There are at least 4-5 sunny and warm days during the summer in Crescent City. You just have to be lucky enough to be there on them

I hope the OP already has made reservations because if they haven't, they're going to have a hard time.

I agree. Six months advance planning and reservations. I see a lot of WalMart and Cracker Barrel parking lot overnight stays in the future.

299

Guessing you'll come into CA via Ren/rte 89. 2 ways to crescent city but prefer 299 west. its a beautiful hiway but prone to repairs so take patience. There are several parks between Redding and the coast but in summer you are cooler by the coast. I was afraid of quakes over that way (cascadian upwelling and retired to paradise and nearly go cremated a couple years back. Still love the area.

Crescent City

I 'm sorry but the person who asked why anyone would want to go to Crescent City in summer is wrong we worked for a campground just outside the city for a whole summer and the weather was beautiful most of the time and the beaches are beautiful and you can have them all to yourself.

I travel and will be headed from CA to Oregon in 2 months. Im headed up 101 and will be driving through Crescent City before I hit Oregon. While cool and foggy at times even in the summer, its one o the best drives (101 Coast) into Oregon. lot to see.

There are a number of spots that you can still get reservations too in the area. They go fast so

The worst winter I ever spent was a summer in Crescent City.

Apologies to Mark Twain.
