Camping at Death Valley from Los Angeles

Hi,

I'm planning to spend 3 nights at Death Valley and take my Geo Pro 20bhs trailer to Furnace Creek campsite. I noticed that they have around 30 site with full hookup. But they do not take reservation.

Question:
How is the drive like for my Tacoma to Furnace Creek? Will there be alot of uphill?
Will there be spot for me for full hook up? If i get there around 2pm on a Thursday?

I am planning to dock my trailer at furnace creek and use my Tacoma to go see Badwater and other attraction there. then go back to Furnace creeek to sleep and next morning go out again for some hiking and more site seeing.

Anything else I'm missing? Please advise.

thank you

All approaches to DV are steep. Furnace Creek is crowded. YOu can boondock lots of places. Hookups are in high demand. YOu can try other places like Panamint Springs. Solitude and the light are my two favorite things about DV except for coyote choir, wild donkeys and jets.

So the drive will be Steep. Do you think my tacoma can handle this? or will it overheat?. Thank you.. I will see if i can make a reservation at Panamint Springs and Solitude.

Boondock at DV I'm pretty sure I need a generator to turn on my AC right? Does it get HOT at night? Because During the day I will be out with my truck to explore the site. we will be back evening to make food and sleep..

thank you..

If you can't get a site in Furnace Creek, you can go to Sunset Campground across the street. It is a big parking lot with bathrooms but it is never full. If you are going in April it shouldn't be too hot, probably around 100 during the day. We went the middle of June a few years and it was 116.

Avoid the heat and you need no generator. If your truck gets hot pull over and idle the engine and let it cool down.
Solitude is not a site, it is a state of mind.
Why go the the largest wilderness area outside of Alaska to camp with 5,000 other people?

It will stay hot until midnight or later. You will want air conditioning unless you are a desert rat. You could go to Costco and buy a Furion or Champion 3500 generator to run your AC. But then, you'll need to haul extra gas to keep it running all night. We almost always boondock, but when it is really hot, we make reservations for a site with power. We camped an Dinosaur National Monument in June without a generator. No shade at our site and very hot. Our ROO with its tent ends and great ventilation was a lifesaver. We only stayed one night instead of the 3 nights we'd planned.

running a generator all night is not going to make you any new friends.
If it is too hot to sleep it is too hot to be there.

If they're in a developed public campground, there will be rules against that.
