Carlsbad

Just left the Carlsbad KOA two weeks ago. It’s a no frills place but it’s about 20 minute drive to the Caverns.

Carlsbad RV - Bud's Place

A year ago we stayed a night at Bud's Place RV Park & Cabins in Carlsbad. It had full hookups with a reasonable price. We were happy with it.

Sunset Reef BLM. It's on BLM land just down from Carlsbad. Established site with shelters, picnic tables, and vault toilets. Bring your own water and electric. Can actually see the Carlsbad Visitors center from the campground, albeit it's like 12 miles by road.

We were just there 2 months ago, Brantley lake as others have recommended was fully closed so check.

There's also a small campground at Whites City near the entrance to the park.

We were there in 2016. This is the info written on my travel Blog, use Google translate !!!!

I remember we stayed at the Guadalupe Mountains, Pine Springs Campground National Park, it is situated in Texas just little bit south of the caverns. Just water, no services.

The complete blog is at : https://florida2009grisou.blogspot.c...vernes-de.html

There is a translation button in the right column, enjoy.

I use an app called AllStays... it's like a one time $10 fee but is EXCELLENT for looking up camping areas. City, county, free places, state parks, fairgrounds, and private owned. it has the best of all campground locations in one spot in my opinion.

Add another vote for Brantley Lake State Park. Stayed there for three nights back in about 2015. Less than an hour drive to the Caverns.

Don't forget to schedule a day in Roswell. The Roswell UFO Museum is totally worth it. Only $5 per person. Even if you don't believe all the hype about the Roswell incident you will be amazed at all they have on display - from the totally silly to the absolute serious. I planned on a quick one hour visit and ended up spending almost five hours in there.

Last year in early April we boondocked between Carlsbad and Guadalupe Mtns NP on BLM land. It was a big gravel/dirt area, very level. Lots of rigs but friendly people and seemed safe.

We stayed at Carlsbad RV Park | Carlsbad RV Park. Easy drive to Carlsbad and Guadalupe MTN NP. Nothing special.

Not sure if you have used https://campgrounds.rvlife.com/ but it might help you evaluate alternatives.

Stayed at the Bonnie and Clyde's Getaway RV Park, 4154-2 7 Rivers Hwy, Carlsbad, NM 88220. Back in 2019 the oil fields were operating and there were a lot of man camps around the area, but not at Bonnie and Clydes. Stayed one night and then drove down to the caverns in the morning. Get there early if you want to have room to park a 40ft 5th wheel.

Thanks for your help.
I stayed at Whites City RV March of 2021, entrance road to the caverns. It was about $45.00 a night. Not the nicest place but very close to the caverns.

Camp Washington Ranch is a bad choice

We stayed at Camp Washington Ranch on Rattlesnake Springs road and it was one of the worst camping experiences we've ever had.

Very poor signage at a point where the road in the campsite divides. No lights, so it is impossible to see where you are going if you arrive at night – the campsites aren't marked. The manager was surly.

It is a small place, and handles few RVs.

Was closed when we came through near Thanksgiving. And as an addition Brantley Lake is indeed closed, and while their site says March of 2022, when that date comes if they stay true to form they'll cancel reservations. They will however have no qualms refunding your campsite fees and pocketing the reservation charge.

Brantley hasn't been open since NM locked down for COVID. The registration game has been ongoing, which is why we stayed on BLM

Camping Nearby

On our trip last summer we stayed at the Enchanted Gardens RV in Carlsbad, NM. It was about a half hour drive from there to the NP.
