Camping Outside Yellowstone NP
I am planning a trip to the Yellowstone area for 2021. I was hoping to stay at Fishing Bridge but it looks like they have delayed opening until the fall. On this trip I wanted to visit more of the NE section.
Do any of the forest service campgrounds in the Cooke City area have electric? Are there any other campgrounds outside the park in this area that would have electric?
The closest place looks like the Red Lodge area but that is a long way from the park.

Gardiner has a couple of campgrounds and West Yellowstone has a few as well. Either of them would be loser than Red Lodge, with Gardiner being the closest.

West Yellowstone Grizzly , or branding iron , or buffalo crossing are all with in 1/2 to the west entrance give or take a 1/4 mile along with a feww other parks in the town of west the wagon wheel very tight but nice and right next to the buffalo bar . Don't drink down stream from the buffalo. Forest service would be bakers hole first come first serve about 3 mile electric only , Rainbow point about 10 miles reservation and some first come first serve has some electric .

I've been to Yellowstone a number of times backpacking, tenting, and with my trailer. I've stayed at Grizzly in WY, Madison, and Fishing Bridge with the trailer, Norris, Tower, Madison, and Canyon in a tent.
This time I would like to spend some time in Lamar Valley. I already have a few days in Cody from which I'll do the Beartooth Hwy. It looks like Gardner is the closest if there is nothing near Cooke City. It will be early Aug so I am looking for elec this time.

Contact the Custer-Gallatin National Forest; https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/custergallatin/home
Most US FS campgrounds do not have electricity.
It is a hard pull from Red Lodge to Cooke City

We've stayed several times at the campground at Flagg Ranch, which is along the Snake River in between Yellowstone's south entrance and Grand Teton's north entrance. Rustic, but full hookups and pull throughs. We've used it as a base to explore both parks.

We stayed at the KOA in Cody and did not mind the drive to Yellowstone. If you are going to Cook City be sure to take the Chief Joseph Highway back to Cody as it is one of the most scenic highways in the sates! Lots to do and see in Cody such as the rodeo and they have a fantastic museum and don't forget the shootout in downtown Cody! They have a nice Elks Lodge if your an Elk!

Camping outside Yellowstone
We camped about 15 miles west of the West Yellowstone gate at Henrys Lake State Park in Idaho - Great spot, and we snagged a week over 4th July!
Map address: 3917 E. 5100 N., Island Park, ID 83429
Highly recommended.

I'll second that. The Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody was awesome! Huge and very well done. Rodeo every night of the week. Craft breweries. We stayed at Buffalo Bill State Park west of Cody on way to East Entrance. Huge pull off electric sites. Found 4 or 5 USFS Campgrounds. Mostly dry camping but a couple had electric. Our 35' Cedar Creek would fit in about half. Mammoth Hot Springs from East entrance is 90 mins and was pretty much dried up 2 weeks ago. One decent spring.

Chief Joseph is a scenic highway, it crosses a mountain range. It has sections that are pretty good grades, with curves but it is very doable with most any camping rig. It is like most mountain roads, use good sense and you will be fine.
The Beartooth, which is between Red Lodge and the park is one I would not do with an RV. It was lots of fun on the motorcycle.

Also, early to mid August, temps are starting to cool down in the evenings and the low humidity makes it comfortable without AC, if that is the need for electricity. I would do campgrounds without electrical hook ups. If you are using one site as a base camp, you should probable have a portable solar charger.

Yellowstone
We stayed in Gardiner last year in August, less than a mile from the YS entrance. We reserved 6 months in advance, popular park.

We camped at Hebgen Lake at Lonesomehurst CG. They have 4 sites with electric. Short drive to Yellowstone, and you drive through town on the way. Beautiful lake, and we liked it much better than staying in Yellowstone.

X2 on the Beartooth Highway with an RV! We stayed in Red Lodge as we had family living there, stayed at Perry's RV. We we traveled to Yellowstone from Red Lodge, about an hour and 45 min but the drive was absolutely stunning.

Redrock RV Park in Island Park, Idaho, is very quiet and comfortable. Great folks who run it. A little inconvenient for Yellowstone, but not a big hassle. It's a lot closer than Cody.

Beartooth was no problem, smaller RV though. Great scenery.
