East Yellowstone to Glacier

This summer we will be in Denver area heading toward East Yellowstone. We would like to be able to camp close to there and make a day trip to Cody and also visit all of Yellowstone. Is there easy roads to leave East Yellowstone and travel to Glacier?

Honestly I'm confused. Are you going to camp inside Yellowstone entering and leaving via the east entrance? Or are you planning to camp outside of the park and go into the east entrance.

Best place to camp and see Yellowstone is inside the park.

Camping outside the park and entering it everyday burns up half the day just entering the park and leaving.

And if in the park, why leave via the east to head to Glacier.

But yes, the road from east Yellowstone entrance go Cody is decent, and from Cody you go north to I90 and then over toward Glacier. The roads are decent, some curves, not too many high passes, easy to drive.

From Fishing Bridge (about the middle of Yellowstone) to Cody is about a 2 hour drive. Allow an extra 30 mins for slow traffic and sightseers. We did it on July 6th last year taking the dog to the only vet open. Camping in Yellowstone is recommended but Fishing Bridge is the pits.

Simply. Will be coming from south (Denver). Would like a good place to setup for about 10 days close or inside Yellowstone. Would like to make day trips (up to 75 miles one way). When finished head toward Glacier. I have big rig.

You won't be staying at Fishing Bridge, it's the only place inside Yellowstone that has full hookups. I looked at the website and all the forty foot spots are taken. Try Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone MT. It's a great park and pretty close to Old Faithful. But you might want to go ahead and make reservations now, it may be to late, they fill up early

We stayed there in 2012 or so campground was great. Full hook-ups at our site and we were next to the Shoshone River on site number 1. The only issue was the wind off of the mountains could not deploy our awning a lot make sure you bring yours in at night.

This is about halfway between Cody and Yellowstone on Highway 14,16,20. Also as you drive down the highway there is a sign warning you about entering bear country. Never saw any or signs of one but it made my wife wonder about them.

There is a rodeo down the street towards Cody plus the Western Museum in Cody.

We did a couple of day trips with one taking the highway out of Cody 120WY to Chief Joseph Scenic Highway 296WY and then on to 212WY Bear Tooth Highway into Cooke City. This will than take you into NE entrance into Yellowstone park and the Lamar valley. Leave the trailer at the RV park!

Another day trip was to the Japanese American concentration camp called Heart Mountain in Powell WY. outside of Cody WY.

Try West Yellowstone or Gardiner, MT. Both are right outside the park.

Our "go to" RV park near Yellowstone is Colter Bay Village inside Grand Teton NP. It is extremely popular, and you are probably out of luck trying to get a spot this year. Second best in my opinion would be to camp in or near Cody for a day or so, then travel to West Yellowstone where there are several good RV parks. That will put you just outside the park with easy access into the paqrk for sightseeing. Also, you will be closer to Glacier after your stay.

At Glacier, I would recommend the West Glacier KOA just outside the park entrance. Top notch facility. Do not try driving your big rig over the Going to the Sun Highway.

Fellow tarheel....visited both parks this past summer. If I were you coming from Denver...I'd head over and take the SOUTH entrance up through Jackson Wy....and Grand Teton Nat park....both VERY worthwhile...and then stay outside the West Entrance of Yellowstone at Grizzly or KOA West (very good park!) to explore Yellowstone. Then I'd head up to Glacier WEST side and stay at Columbia Falls RV Park ...not quite as close the entrance as the KOA...but has all the ameneties of being in a nice little town. Use the park shuttle to explore or get to the trail heads...it is quite spectacular. Leaving there...drive straight through the park to the East side and if you are heading south again...you can go 15 to 90 East and then cut down to Cody if you really want to see it.
Heading EAST from Cody...you can cut down to the south end of the Bighorns and pick up 90 again...and use that to cross SD...where Spearfish, Deadwood, Rushmore, CUSTER STATE PARK...do not miss!, and the badlands await on the way home.

We lucked up last year and got a few days at Grizzly RV park and West Columbia, someone had canceled at both places. We went in July and everything was booked in Cody, some campgrounds would not even take phone calls, just a recording, FULL! We found spots but not where we wanted. We got started late from NC we plan to start back in May. I plan on staying a few days in Grand Teton and dry camp there. We have found a lot of parks outside of places we want to stay, just have to drive a little ways but what's a few miles when you have already drove 2,000 miles

We have decided to come north out of Salt Lake City and come into the west side of both Yellow Stone and Glacier. We have reservations already at both places. Few parks we called are booked for mid June. Thanks for the suggestions.

Great! West Yellowstone is centrally located and provides excellent access to the features. Great fly fishing nearby too!

I think Devils Tower is East of Cody maybe 300 mile. Yellowstone is west of Cody. But it is for sure a great stop if your in the Black Hills & Yellowstone area.
