First Real Trip

We're taking our new FR3 to Sacramento from San Antonio soon. I used the Good Sam Trip Advisor to locate RV parks between here and there. Since I [DW] am driving, I want to break the trip up into 300-400 mile driving days and to be careful where we stay. Below are the parks that I've identified as possibilities. I wonder if anyone has stayed at any of these or have recommendations:

Van Horn [TX] RV Park
Life Style RV Resort [Wilcox AZ]
Scenic Road RV Park [Quartzite AZ]
Lost Hills [Atascadero CA]
Sac-West RV Park [West Sacramento] This site would potentially be our base camp because the aunties live just north of Sac.

Looking forward to hearing from you with advice and suggestions. Thank you in advance.

one correction, Lost Hills RV park is in Lost Hills, not Atascadero.
unless you aren't going up I5 and are doing 101 instead.

and due to traffic, if your aunties are north of Sacto, i suggest staying on the north end.
you'll probably find a better park there, especially if it's out towards Roseville.

I went back to the Sam trip planner and sure enough it shows the RV park in Atascadero; however the website does show it in Lost Hills.

There is one in Loomis, however their website is under construction and there is no information.

We've driven to CA several times and have a toad so the trip from West Sac to Citrus Heights doesn't concern us too much.

Having lived in Citrus Heights for many years and worked near W. Sac, I can tell you that unless you drive at night, you stand a good chance in being in bumper to bumper traffic all the way.

I drive by the Lifestyles RV park in Willcox, Az all the time and from the street it looks pretty good. Great dining at the Big Tex BBQ at Maley and Railroad downtown, plus there is about a one block area fixed up nice and fancy of the older places on Railroad Ave.
Willcox's claim to fame is that it is the hometown of Rex Allen.

Do you have any suggestions for RV parks in the Rocklin/Roseville or even Folsom Highway area?

If you end up staying in Van Horn, TX, my recommendation is the KOA there. In my opinion, it's better that the other Van Horn campground.

What is your planned route? Going east from Sacramento puts you into Nevada. Where are you dropping South to head for San Antonio?

Van Horn Advice

Thank you for the head's up in Van Horn.

We will probably end up back-tracking to S.A. the same route we took going to Sac. I'm not too wild about negotiating some of the terrain around Tahoe in this new rig just yet.

Can you provide any info on good RV parks north of Sacramento, maybe around Roseville or Rocklin?

No personal recommendations around Roseville/Rocklin area. I do know some people that have stayed at the Placer County Fair & Events Center - RV Park . As long as there are no events taking place. First come, first served and they have some hookups but no restrooms on the grounds.

Do you have to have an RV park?

Personally I would check out the campground at Beales Point in the Folsom Lake SRA. Much closer to Citrus Heights than West Sacramento is and less traffic to deal with.

I live next to the lake and have camped in there with boy scouts a few times. I think they have two sides to the campground with one more tailored to RVs.

Less scenic might be the campsites at the Placer County Fairgrounds in Roseville. I forget they are there...
