Fort Worth to Las Vegas

I'm trying to plan a special trip for my husband retiring on Jan 17. We are so excited to be able to rv without being in a hurry. Need best route to Las Vegas. Want to stay in a hotel on strip once we get there so will need a place to park rv for a few days. We want to take our time getting there and returning home. No rushing, no more!!! Need help with planning.

Sam's Club has a RV site(KOA) right next to it, its little more than a parking lot.

I-20-I-10, in Phoenix grab 93 north to I-40 near Kingman, AZ. then into Vegas from there on 93

Only problem with the time of year that your looking at is the winter weather between here and there.

A Week ago my daughter booked round trip airfare on Southwest for $127 each person...yes that is for round trip. I would consider flying to Vegas stay in your hotel and save the RV trip for a warmer time where you could stop off and enjoy the National Parks along the way.

That is an easy trip, Hwy 287 from Ft Worth to I-40 West in Amarillo to Kingman Az, Hwy 93 North to Las Vegas across the new Hoover Dam bridge

I believe if you take the Lubbock route through Albuquerque there could be some winter snow issues (gotta go thru Flagstaff). The route through El Paso/Phoenix as mentioned should not cause any wintery issues. Lubbock/Albuquerque route is about 1200 miles. El Paso/Phoenix route is about 1350 miles. Might check on parking the RV at Circus Circus RV Park during your stay.

X2. I-40 can get nasty quick, especially in Jan. We always stay at Oasis RV Park on the south end of the strip. Great place and convenient.

We also stay at Oasis RV Resort or if full up across I15 at Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort or sometimes at Nellis AFB Famcamp. Really like Vegas.

We were able to park our ClassA along side (on street) the parking garage at the Luxor last year. (2015) I called the concierge first to confirm & would suggest you do the same since the front desk lady knew nothing about it. We ended up paying less for our room and parking at the Luxor right on the strip than we would have at any of the RV parks. (midweek rates are LOW!) The Vegas.
Riding the Deuce bus up and down the Strip can be done from right in front of the hotel and is easy and cheap and safe.

We will be heading back that way from Port Aransas Tx. to Vegas on the 3rd. We will be going the I 10 route but may continue down to Quartzsite then head north along the Colorado on 95 to Vegas. We are staying at the Oasis (nice park and close to where we need to be in Vegas.) We stayed at the Circus Circus RV park 5 years ago when it was a KOA still, reviews don't look good for there any more.

The OP is staying in a hotel while in Vegas and wanted suggestions as to where to park their RV. A couple of us got carried away with places to stay in our RV's. Circus Circus was but one suggestion as to where to park it. Of course there must be others. The Luxor sounds OK if they are staying at the Luxor. Personally, there are a lot better hotels.

I would agree with jonrjen. Save the greif and driving and take the plane. If you got 8 miles per gal. in your rv it would cost at $2.40gal, about $360 each way, ($720) plus the cost of camping. Not worth the hassle when you can get on a plane and be there in a couple hours. There are lots of nice hotels there and great places to eat as well. You retired and can spend your time exploring all those places for camping when the weather is warmer and you can enjoy it rather than worrying about having an accident on a snowy road or a breakdown in the cold. Enjoy your stay and let someone else do the cleaning, etc., and besides, eating at some of those great restaurants can be a real adventure even if a bit more than eating by yourselves in the camper.

Oasis is more of a resort type place. Great facilities, lots of room. Three types of reservations going from reasonable to expensive. We usually take the middle one. Check out their website for details. There is a shuttle to the strip and the restaurant is great. Nellis is also great, just pretty far from anything.

The best Rv campgrounds is Motorcoach Resorts, located on Arville and Blue Diamond. Resyricted to only Class A and at a premium rate compared to others. The one most recommended is Oasis, very nice and close to strip. They probably run shuttle but not sure. There are hotels on the strip that you can park your own in their lots, Luxor and circus circus another but open paved lot with hookups. If you desire to stay near downtown Fremont area there is a Rv park right next to CA hotel and casino. As a local definitely more fun on Fremont them strip for value and fun. Other is the Rio across the 15 close to the strip, you can park there. Nice suites there and shuttle to strip. Whichever you choose I wish you luck. Enjoy our city

Back to the question'

We are in Amarillo right now and it's in the 40's and windy. We were supposed to be here 2 weeks ago but it was 3 degrees, we're heading back to FTW Tuesday because it's supposed to be in the teens Tuesday night.

I-40 can easily be a skating rink in the winter and it can also be a great drive, you never know. The weather will dictate the route.

287 to Amarillo then I-40 is what Google Maps recommends but in January I'd look real hard at I-20 & I-10.

If it was me this time of year I'd fly Southwest or .............

go to San Antonio and stay in the hill country a while then meander over to Las Cruces then Tucson and Phoenix then Vegas. Is San Diego on the way?

Yep, what he Said! I-40 is definitely iffy this time of year. My truck driver friends avoid it in any vehicle. I've hit ice answer snow on I-20 and I-10 here in Texas this time of year. Consider flying to Vegas and then camping down in our hill country.

Congratulations on you retirement!

If you are going to be traveling on 40, be sure to stop off in Albuquerque and ride the Sandia Peak sky tram. It is absolutely stunning! Here is a link to our blog post about that.

https://habsontheroad.com/2016/07/09...re-new-mexico/

If you go to our main blog page, you can see where we stopped along the way while traveling toward California from Arkansas on I-40. You may find some places you would also want to stop.

Safe travels!
