Going to Estes Park, Co in Summer

Anyone have thoughts on using US 34 or US 36 to get to Estes Park coming from the east off I-25?
Or other suggestions.

Last summer we went up on 36 and came back down on 34. They both have lots of curves and have grades to go up or down. I don’t think either is better than the other, just drive with your brain engaged and you will be fine.

If you're heading north on I25 I think 36 is more gradual. Catch hwy 66 off I25. If heading south on I25 34 is the ticket. 34 is more winding than 36.
One other thing; make your reservations as soon as possible.

Of course it is. Just like every other popular destination in close proximity to national/state parks.
Not everyone is as lucky as some of us retired folks who can go off season....

There are plenty of places to go in summer without 10,000 people.

36 >>>>> 34.

Until you hit Estes. If you're heading to RMNP, bear right and switch to 34 and go in Fall River, not the main at Beaver Meadows.

Fall River entrance is partially closed this summer for construction. And you must have timed entry anyway.

Take you warm weather gear. I have been up there in July and there was a heat wave out east so everyone had their shorts and short sleeve shirts. A cold front came through and the stores were raided for cold weather gear (of which there was few items). It can get very cold anytime in the summer (even snow at higher elevations anywhere on Colorado).
