The Grand Canyon is located in the Northwestern part of Arizona. It is about 277 miles long and up to 18 miles wide below Yavapai point which is 2,400 feet above sea level, about 4,500 feet below the South Rim and 5,400 feet below the North Rim for an average depth of about one mile. It includes 70 species of mammals, 250 species of birds, 25 types of reptiles and five species of amphibians.
The bottom of the Canyon is many degrees hotter than the top. If you hike down, be sure to pack enough water. If you take burro, hang on. The rafting trip is fantastic. Do it if you can. I think the north rim has better campgrounds.
But it is hot hot hot there now. Maybe a trip to the bottom is not such a good idea.
The North rim campground is much smaller than the South. If you travel with pets, the North rim is pretty restrictive as to where you can take them whereas the South rim area is open pretty much to pets, with the exception that pets are not allowed below the canyon rim.
The ride to the North rim campground is really nice.
We are staying in Williams, AZ at Railside RV Ranch for the south rim, and Kaibab Camper Village at Hwy 67 and Hwy 89 For the north rim. Anyone ever stay at either?

We took the half day mule ride down inside the canyon from the
north rim lodge. Book inside the lodge.
It turned out to be lots of fun and those mules just plodded down
into the canyon 1400 feet and back up again without breaking
a sweat. We're hikers but couldn't have done it on foot!
