Heading down the Oregon Coast

We will be heading down the Oregon coast in a few weeks on our way home from a windsurf trip in the Gorge. We want to take the coast home to Los Angeles since I am finally retired and we are in no rush. We are planning to head north first to Astoria (recommended by a friend) and would love some recommendations for things to see and an RV park or 2 to stay maybe half way down the coast. Since its summer and state parks may be all reserved, private parks would work fine. Thanks for any and all thoughts!

Just returned from 5 weeks stayed at 18 different locations...including several along the Oregon Coast.
It's been years since we last visited the Oregon Coast and it is still breath taking scenery.
Highly recommend Sea & Sand RV Park Depoe Bay...large park great beaches and Heceta Beach RV Park Florence Or. small quiet park great rates beautiful beach 10 min walk. Do not recommend RV Outdoor Adventures Clatskanie...water smelt like sewer, rules upon rules.
Have a great trip.

Premier RV Resort, Lincoln City is a nice private park. Beverly Beach State Park just north of Newport is a large State Park. They will be booked up for sure, but it's worth checking in as they get some cancellations especially if the weather is on the cool side. Check out the Yaquina Head Light House while in the Newport Area. Free admission with a National Park Pass, $7.00 otherwise I think. Farther south, Winchester Bay RV Resort is another real nice private park. Can't hurt to check, but probably full. There are several other private parks along the same road. This is a very popular place for the sand dune crowd with all their toys. Weekends will be impossible to find something, but mid-week will be better.
There are a lot of viewing areas all along the way, especially in the central coast area, all offer magnificent views and many photo ops. Enjoy your trip.

State parks are pretty well booked up. Will probably have better luck with private parks, but suggest you call ahead for reservations. Winchester Bay RV Resort in Reedsport is a vey nice resort / park on Salmon Harbor.
