Highly recommend Haviland Lake CO campground

We just returned from 4 days at Haviland Lake, north of Durango on Rt 550. Easy access to the campground, very quiet, and incredible views. Campsites could use some work. Mine was listed as a 40ft pull though, but was a pull off and hope your slide out does not get hit. A lot to do in the area, short ride to Durango, and easy day trip over the Million Dollar Highway into Silverton and Ouray. Colorado camping sites book up fast so make reservations early in the year.

It looks very nice. We are a number of years away from being able to camp out there, but we visited those towns and drove on the Million Dollar Highway about nine years ago. Looking forward to visiting that part of the country again.

You are going to be in it #45, it is just a pull off the road so the slide out was right at the edge of the site. It is also the last site so a few people fishing the lake would walk through the campground rather than the bank, and cut through our site. But over all it is a great spot. If I went back I would do 41, 42, 43, 44, which are back in sites along the lake.

Thanks - I thought those pics looked an awful lot like the ones I'd seen of site #45. FWIW - would have booked those other lakefront sites, but this was the last one available (and I got lucky - saw a thread on the campground just as the reservations were opening for the time we wanted - a day later & I wouldn't have gotten anything lakefront), so we grabbed it. After seeing your post, I went back to the campground website, and I see a note at the bottom of the page saying no slides in that site. It's also in the fine print on my reservation. I didn't think to look for it at the time I booked, so I was a bit panicked and now am kicking myself for missing it. But it's good to know that you were able to make it work w/your slide - we'll have to make sure to pull that thing as far over to the right as humanly possible & hope for the best!!! :-)

Same here, I tired booking it last year and it booked up for the entire season the first day the reservations opened up. This year I got lucky, did not book it until the 2nd day, but found the open weekend in early June.

I did not see the info on no slide out, that my be why this spot was available. The camp host came by several time and never said anything about it. I had to pull my wheels right over next to the wooden steps in order to fit my camper. I parked my truck behind to give a little more warning to people coming around the curve, and had some orange cones and a strap on the slide out.

Let me know how your trip goes, and you will be enjoying the same sites. One warning, there is no established trail around the lake! You would think there would be but it was a rough hike to do it.

Just got back from our stay in Site #45 - thanks to your heads up on the site width, we went prepared with an orange traffic cone & a roll of reflective tape. Pulled all the way over to the stairs, and with the cone out, we were able to get far enough off the road to pull the dinette/sofa slide all the way out, and it worked well. What a beautiful campground & lake - the pictures don't do it justice. We'll be back! Click image for larger version

It is definitely on my list to return to. Will be through there next fall on a motorcycle ride and plan on camping there again. Great pics, you were smart and took your kayaks. My neighbor offered to lend me his to take up there but my wife is not a fan of water so I passed on the offer. Sorry I didn't it would have been great to get out on the water,

Looks like you had good weather too!
