Hiking trails

I don't really know if this goes here but my apologies if I posted wrong.
I know that some of you are avid hikers and hopefully I can get some tips here. I am looking for a good trail book for Arizona. I am seeing so much info on Amazon that I just wondered if anyone has a favorite book for day hikes?

Call or go to your nearest National Forest office, they have trail guides, maps and books, some are free others are sold through their interpretive association.

Also consider getting AllTrails. You can look at trails online and download them to your phone. We use it all the time.

My son uses all trails but I wonder if that would work if you were in an area of limited coverage like some of the slot canyons in AZ and Utah. I guess if you downloaded ahead of time it would be okay. I have been in an area (lavarock canyon in Oregon) where I couldn't access anything on gps or phone...scared me to death. I guess the safest way is still map and compass...I am not good at it and plan to never leave the trail..lol

Kinda depends on what parts of AZ. you can find whatever types of hikes you want!

If you are using a gps you will find a lot of free resources and trail maps at GPSFileDepot:

I would also recommend that you use a permethrin based clothing spray if you are going to be in an area that has ticks. Permethrin binds to you clothing, last through several washings, and kills ticks. It is not for your on your skin; clothing only. It is harmful to cats and fish in its liquid form.

Since I started using it many years ago. I haven’t been bitten by a tick and haven’t brought any into the car or house which keeps the misses happy.
