Hwy 93 from Idaho Falls area to Banff

Doing a little preplanning for a trip to Glacier and Banff. We'll be traveling from the East and will be on Interstate to the Salt Lake City area. Plan on bypassing SLC and head North from there. Is moving over to Hwy 93 from Idaho Falls a doable route pulling a 5th wheel RV or should I stick to the Interstate? Crossing from Idaho into Montanna looked to have some grades to consider. I have experience towing in Eastern Mts. but not the Rockies. I've driven in the Rockies but never towed.

Shouldn't be a problem. Although I'm from California, I make an annual pilgrimage to Idaho with my bumper pull travel trailer every year visiting family and fishing. Also, I know people that travel back and forth between Mackay and Idaho Falls.

Remember there are no RVs allowed on the Road to the Sun. Morris Pass to South of the park is fine. We're taking it this weekend to avoid road construction at home.

Is Morris Pass the Idaho to Montanna crossing?

Feel free to disregard this advice.

If I were towing from the Salt Lake City area to Glacier National Park... with no towing experience through the Rocky Mountains..... I'd stick to the interstates.

There is absolutely no comparison between towing over the ancient Appalachian Mountains and the higher, steeper Rocky Mountains. Even on the interstates, you can find challenging grades and crosswinds through the mountains that will challenge your ability to tow your 5th wheel.

Take your time and be aware that the dryer mountains with their thinner air will challenge the people more than the equipment. Keep hydrated and have fun!

No, it's the southern route around Glacier. We are taking it from Browning to Columbia Falls, and will be returning the same way.

That's Marias Pass on Hwy 2.

The pass between Idaho and Montana on 93 is Lost Trail Pass.
