Hwy 94 vs Hwy 8 to go east from San Diego to Yuma

I'm travelling from Sweetwater RV park near San Diego to Yuma in December. Google maps shows taking 8 east but if I drag route to 94 it takes off several hours. I'm pulling a 27RR and wondering if anyone has done both routes and can suggest which is best. I'm not in a hurry as only going to Yuma that day. Thanks in advance for any advice.
