Moab Utah & Arches
Spent the last 5 days in Moab and visited Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse state park. Magnificent and different than anything in the Northeast or Southeast. This has been on my list of to do, and I am glad that I was able to make this journey... Will be posting pictures as we go. Be sure to see the good old USA......

Oh, you're in my favorite area. Absolutely love the whole Moab region.
I remember telling people that it felt like a Mars landscape at times.

I too have been to UT and like the entire state to camp and visit. I just whish that UT was closer to me as it is a least a three day trip one way to get there for me.
One thing about Dead Horse state park is it reminding me of the FLASH GORDON series with Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon. Which reminded me of the ROCK PEOPLE in one of the TV series that I saw as a kid.

Should read get over to Zion if you can get in. They were so busy in June that we could not find parking at the tram pick up and the tram wait was over 1 hour. Ended up taking our Jeep to peek a boo slot canyon near Kanab.

Do go over to Zion through Capitol Reef! I believe access to Bryce Canyon is along the way. You will have to go around through Kanab and Hurricane to get to Zion, though!

If you are over 50' long or 12' high, do not attempt to Enter Zion from the west. There is a tunnel with a series of sharp switchbacks immediately after it and they won't let you pass if you are oversize.

You may be too young or uninterested in this. There is an old Gunsmoke film set a out 9 miles from Kanab. I believe it is Johnson Canyon Road. Kanab is nice and less crowded than Moab. We did tge Shaffer Trail from Canyon Lands National Park down to Potash trail in our 2015 GMC 2500hd duramax picup. WHAT FUN! My wife was looking out her side window and saying "dear there isn't any road here move over" and I said " can't there is a rock wall on this side" all the time our GSD was sliding from one side of the back seat to the other! Apx 2,000 ft down to the Colorado River then back to town . Love to do it again, at least I would 😅

Moab Area
DW and I both love the Moab area, but we prefer to stay at Shady Acres RV park in Green River. Easy day drives to Arches and/or Canyonlands NP's without the crowds in Moab. Great Museum in Green River featuring the adventures of the John Wesley Powell exploration of the Green and Colorado Rivers. Very quiet and friendly town with several good restaurants. Easy day trip from there north to Vernal, UT, or all the way to Grand Tetons.
Does anyone know why Utah is known as "The Beehive State"?? No one in Green River could answer!!

I tried like hell to get my wife to let me do that in our dually. She said no after a bad experience in deep sand in southern Utah near Pink Coral Sands State Park.

When we went (2017) they were not allowing duallies (sp?) on that trail. Had to have 12" ground clearance, no more than 20' long, and 4WD recommended but we couldn't use because it made sharp turns impossible. We tell people to rent a jeep to do it.

Opinion: Best camping in the area is in Capitol Reef NP
Utah is incredibly beautiful and deserves all the NP's it can get.
We've visited the Moab/Canyonlands/Arches/Zion/Bryce area twice and only discovered Capitol Reef on our second trip. The CR campground is in a fruit orchard planted by Mormon settlers. Best place to camp in the area IMO, and worth adding to your next trip.

We went last year and arches was closed by 9:00am until most everyone got out then again on the next round. We went in 4 days in a row by the time you walk to all the sights. Just stayed at BLM down the river from the entrance to the park.
Maybe all the hive hidden under rock ledges.

Maybe this will help you answer that “Beehive” question? I lived there for 25 years and couldn’t remember why. Lol.
The beehive is a prominent image in Utah's state government. The beehive is meant to symbolize perseverance, industry, thrift, and collaboration. It's also an important symbol in the Mormon faith, which remains the predominant religion in Utah.
