Morro Bay State Park

I'll be headed there in 3 weeks for a couple nights. Anyone camp there before? If so how was it?

One of our favorite campgrounds. This time of year should be really quiet. Very enjoyable!
A few years ago Morro Bay SP went to site specific reservations and it was even better to pick the area we liked best. This year they have reverted to non site specific for some reason. But still great.
Lots to do in the area, Cambria, Montana de Oro Sp , downtown Morro Bay, embarcadero, and of course the Costco in San Luis Obispo gas station (for the trip home)
Wish we were going too!!

Yea I notices when I made reservation that it said as of 1-3-12 they were going to non specific & of course that's the day I made my reservation lol. But I did pay for a hook up site so that's all I was worried about. Can't wait

We used to camp at Morro Bay when I was about 12 years old, now 62. We loved it so much. We camped out near the rock, when it was really just a large parking lot. We got up in the mornings and would walk the beach picking up things. I have some very good memories of that place, even when the wind blew our canvas tent over. Now living in Middle Tennessee, too far to drive for a weekend getaway.

It's still just a parking lot by the Rock.

you're mixing parks up. the OP asked about Morro Bay SP, not Morro Strand SB.
Morro Strand is a parking lot next to the Rock.
Morro Bay SP is down on the south end of Morro Bay.
definitely not a parking lot, right next to a beautiful golf course and a short walk to the Bay.

Yes State park is actually at the foot of Bear Mountain with the golf course just above it. We have stayed at it way back about 25 years ago. I also remember as a kid using a tent by the Rock. Somewhere I have a few old fotos of it. Also in the sixtys I lived the with my parents went to school at Morro Bay High right across the street from the other camp ground. High school was actually right on the beach. Lived there for around eight years. My Dad had a Arco gas station in San Luis Obisbo on The Corner of Montery and Johsen Streets I was working there after school I can remember Gas going for 29 cents a gallon.
