Northern San Diego County August availabilities?

My wife and I have been trying to plan a trip to San Diego county to visit our son who is going through cancer treatment at his home in Escondido. We had thought we would drive out with our travel trailer so we could stay in the Escondido area to be available as needed. Our efforts to find a campground site in July-August timeframe near Escondido have been frustrated by availability (one campground said there was a hundred on their waiting list) and the age of our unit (2008). I submitted pics of the unit as requested, but have not been called back with an yea or nay. I am suspecting that Californians are rushing to campgrounds from their COVID confinements, and there is just "no room at the end". Does anyone have any insights about campsite availability in northern San Diego county?

Have you tried county parks? Guajome Regional Park in Oceanside and Dos Picos Park in Ramona have campgrounds. We love Dos Picos. Might be busy on weekends.

Chula Vista is about 40 minutes away from Escondido with no traffic. We have a KOA, and 2 expensive bayfront resorts.

Yea! Woods Valley Kampground in Center Valley NE of Escondido had a site for us for two weeks in August. We are relieved.
