Planning a trip to Texas Hill Country

We are planning a trip to the Texas Hill Country the 2nd week of March to the middle of April. One of are stops is Fredericksburg, than Austin, San Antonio, that whole triangle, should we stay in one campground or move around? Also what campground do you recommend? Do you think there will be any problem getting a camp site during that time?

March is a good time to visit the hill country. It may still be a little cool at night. Check out the state parks, there quite few in that area. Most Texas state parks are $20 a night and have water and electric and the bath houses are clean. We are planning to go to Inks Lake State Park in the hill country next week. I agree, Inks lake is beautiful, we were there for 4 nights two weeks ago. Book a 50Amp spot, even if you dont need it, the 50A sites are much nicer IMO and are over by the best trails area and the Devils Waterhole. We have also stayed at McKinney Falls State park, beautiful as well, close in to austin as well. Also stayed at Potters Creek on Canyon Lake, not too far from San Antonio, beautiful lake and by April that area should be in full Spring bloom, cool nights and perfect days.

Has anyone stayed in the Fredericksburg Tx area and which campground do you like.

We've been to the Hill Country many times. Beautiful in the spring, many interesting wineries. We've towed the Jeep and motorcycles. Motorcycles are the best when there, if you have the opportunity. The Triangle, so to speak, from San Antonio-Boerne-Fredericksburg-Kerrville-Bandera back to San Antonio is approximately 180 miles.

The Llano and Mason area north of Fredericksburg (about 35 mi) is generally very beautiful. It all depends on the early spring rains, or lack of rain.

We've stayed at the following parks over the years. I'm assuming they're still nice parks:

Skyline Ranch RV Park Bandera
Alamo Fiesta RV Resort > San Antonio and Boerne Area RV Resort NW side of San Antonio

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal RV Park in Fredericksburg is a nice RV park with clean grounds and restrooms. ($25/day) It is a very popular place and reservations are strongly suggested. We spent a week there after Christmas and had a great time visiting Enchanted Rock State Park, downtown historic Fredericksburg, 6 wineries east of Fredericksburg, Luckenback Dance Hall, LBJ Ranch State and National Park and 2 days at Pedernales Falls State Park.

Yes March will be a great time to visit the Texas Hill Country but the first two weeks of April could be spectacular with wild flowers.
