Redwoods/Hiking

We are heading down the Oregon coast to the Redwoods. Looking for suggestions for camping spots (hook up not necessary) and easy to moderate hikes with a dog.
Thanks Ken

None of the state park redwoods allow dogs on the trails. In fact, I don't know of any California State Parks allow dogs on trails.
Only on fire roads.

I doubt if dogs are allowed on any Redwoods National Park trails either.

National Parks do not allow dogs off leash or off trail. Most, if not all state parks are the same and leash laws are enforced. When you say "heading down the coast to the redwoods", I am going to assume you are talking more about the Or / Ca state line, and possibly Jedediah Smith Park?? On the coast hi way, (this is off the coast hi way) via Smith River, Ca, is about when you begin to get into the Redwoods.

If you go to J Smith SP drive the Howland Hill road through the park.

Many years ago we took the train out to hike the redwoods. We rented a car and drove across the mts from Redding and camped at Patrick's Point St Park which was spectacular. Seamounts, tide pools, and an agate beach. It was a shooting location for Jurassic Park. My favorite grove to hike was the Rockefeller grove which was quite remote and spectacular. I had 2 13 YO girls with but no dog. Patrick Point allows dogs in the campground but not on the trails which are very steep. Here is a link to the Rockefeller Grove area: Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association |. I remember seeing campgrounds there and there are 3 State Parks in that area with camping. We were looking for the biggest trees and hiked way in. Didn't see any other people on the trails but that was many years ago.
