Ridgway Co to Cortez?

How is the route on SR 62 and SR 145 from Ridgway to Cortez in mid September? Any really bad stretches? We want to avoid the thrills (terror?) of tbe Million Dollar Highway! No problem climbing high elevations as long as the inclines and turns are reasonable.

IMHO the Million Dollar Highway is the most scenic road in Colorado. But my wife does not agree. My opion would be different if I drove a big rig. Going to Cortez through Teluride is the easier route. Spend some time in Teluride on your way the town is gorgeous.

My wife agrees with yours regarding the million dollars highway, hence my considering another route. The route I suggested is the Teluride route isn't it? Is have you driven it and is your wife comfortable with it? Thanks!

We drove this route last year on our way to Mesa Verde NP. My wife was fine with the drive and it was smooth sailing with no "oh *****s" along the way.

Did that drive from Ridgeway St Pk campground to Durango in Sept 16 to avoid million dollar highway on first trip with my 25' camper trailer. I did run into a guy with a big bus camper pulling a jeep and he came up that way through Ouray, so it can be done.

Thanks. Yes million dollar highway can be done. I've watched 18 wheelers coming over it, as well as 5th wheel trailers. I'm sure we could do it too but my wife is not comfortable doing so. And, as we all know, when mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy!

Highways 62 and 145 make for a good trip. Real pretty that time of year and the Delores River canyon is scenic. I can recommend the Cortez KOA as a pretty good park.
The million dollar highway is best unhitched and taking the time for photo ops as you go.
