RMNP & Colorado Springs

DW and I are really pumped about our upcoming trip to Colorado. We’re leaving Thursday for Colorado Springs where we have reservations for seven days at the Mountaindale Campground. After that we’re headed to Rocky Mountain National Park and will be staying at a commercial campground not far from the park’s entrance. It’s been a few years since we’ve visited these areas. In 2008 we stayed at Mountaindale in our Wildcat fifth wheel but we haven’t been back to RMNP since 2002 when we were still tent camping.

This will be our first long trip with the new Silverback. It will be interesting to see if the taller front end on the Silverback cuts my fuel mileage.

We went from Michigan to Colorado springs last year in our rockwood 8316. Stayed at Cheyenne mountain state park right above fort Carson below NORAD. Did the pikes peak train, stopped at the air force academy and Olympic training facility. From there headed to Fraser, co for a family wedding stayed in a cul du sac. Some awesome hiking around there. Moved from there going through the alpine pass into RMNP. We stayed four days at glacier basin campground in the park. Again we hiked a ton on some awesome trails. Our kids still talk about that trip.

I was unable to get reservations at Cheyenne Mountain State Park so we decided to stay at Mountaindale again. We will be hiking in the state park and checking out the campground when we are in the area. I can't wait to go to the top of Pikes Peak again.

Just returned from a lovely stay in RMNP. We already want to return!! It was beautiful--although there were no showers--but we figured it iut. Estes Park is a fun little town. the drive to the Continentl Divide was breathtaking!

Yes, breathtaking in more ways than one. My DW doesn't like roads with big dropoffs and no guardrails. While we were in Colorado I periodically posted about our trip w/pics in the Cedar Creek Forum on this board. Here's a link if you'd like to read it. http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...rip-24817.html

Awesome area. Our whole family was ready to go back as soon as we got home. How close to the Estes park fire where you. They have had a tough summer out there this year. Glad we went last year.

The Estes Park fire was right across the road from the Elk Meadow RV park. It was contained the day before we arrived. We called Elk Meadow before we arrived to make sure the park was open.
All of the fires were tragic, but the damaged caused by Waldo Canyon fire made me feel heartsick for the people who lost their homes.
