Road advice to Yellowstone

Heading to Yellowstone looks like weather may hold out next week. The GPS has me going from Rock Springs, WY. to West Yellowstone on 191/32/20 North. Question is, are those good roads? Thanks in advance.

Just stay off of 22 and you will be fine.

Just some additional information and route.
You can go in to the Grand Teton NP and head into the South gate of Yellowstone and out the west gate to West Yellowstone.

Just a few more miles and probably more scenery.

191 is a great road, I came into it from Lander/Farson, took it on up to the junction with 26. Great RV park in Boulder, Highline Trail RV Park. Also, in Pinedale the Museum of the Mountain Man is worth a stop if you are into such things along with the Green River Rendezvous area.

I live in Jackson, you want to go 191 north from rock springs. You get great scenery of the wind river range near Pinedale, then drive up through hoback canyon and grand teton national Park on the way to yellowstone.

Actually a very nice scenic drive to Jackson Hole.
Also north of Jackson Hole in the Teton NP is a lot of campgrounds.
Jackson Hole campgrounds downtown are very expensive. $100 a night.
Colter Bay has a few campgrounds we used years ago.
From the into Yeloowstone and out to west yellowstone is also amazing.
I've done it twice in my 38ft Georgeotwn and toad.

Like mentioned ... DO NOT take 22 over the mountains unless you like to hear your engine screaming going up and smell your brakes smoking going down... 32 is quite rough to Ashton as well. If you don't go north on 191, try 26 over towards Idaho Falls, but veer off near Rigby, then up 20. We just were in that area the around Sept 12 for about a week. Things may have changed since then, but with the insane number of people in the park, the smoke from the wildfires blurring everything within a 1/2 mile, and taking an hour to drive 3 miles each day due to the same 6 elk and same 3-4 buffalo in a meadow near the Madison intersection ... you might experience disappointment. The sights within the park are amazing IF you have the patience to get to them and the smoke is gone. Be advised ... (Grand Loop Road) from Canyon to Tower Roosevelt is closed due to construction.

I can attest to "DO NOT TAKE 22". From Wikipedia: "The pinnacle of the*pass*is 8,431 feet (2,570 m) above sea level approximately 11 miles (18 km) out of Jackson. The maximum*grade*on the road is 10%". That 10 percent almost killed my Durango and I was only towing a 19' Tahoe Lite. Had to pull a u-turn in the middle of the road.

Good road but never take the road to the Teton Pass road. NEVER EVER..
I did it in 2012 accidently with my GT pulling my car. Their is still a stain on the drivers seat.lol
10% grade up and down and reached 10,000 ft at the pass.
Even if you think its a short cut. LOL

Now the road around the mountain to Jackson Hole is good and flatter but a bit longer.

Great Yellowstone trip took the advice and everything went great.4 nights down to 22 and no freezing pipes. I put a wireless thermometer in the rear area where most of the water pipes are and never got below 47. The roads where great and had snow one day, the crowds where very small but the bartender said it was there busiest October. We did not wait for anything. On our way to Utah and Thanks to all.

Lot of hate for Hwy 22. I take it all the time with and without a trailer (this time of the year W/O due to restrictions.
I live outside of Driggs, but dine a lot over in Jackson.

But I guess the road is not for the squeamish; best to stay in the flat lands.

People that live in states like Wyo get used to the roads. Really 10 percent not that much grade. There are provincial major highways in Canada with more grade than that. Most interstates don't have grades over 7 %, but in the West there are plenty of roads in the 10-15% range.

The maximum grade on the Sonora Pass road over the Sierra is 26% for contrast. It is not recommended for RVs.
