Smile Road Condtions

We will be traveling from Las Vegas to Brice Canyon Utah.
Curious to know if we are facing steep grades or what.

You will have to cross at least one pass to get from I-15 to Bryce. Get a copy of the Mountain Directory. It will tell you about the grades on the various choices of roads along your route.

No. Have made that trip several times. 15 to the 20, 20 to 89, 89 to I believe the 12. Beautiful drive on the 20 and 89- at least for me.

The choices from I-15 to US-89 are as follows.

UT-20 between I-15 and US-89 has 8% grades in both directions with 45 MPH curves.

UT-14 has 8% grades and 25 and 35 MPH curves.

UT-9 has grades up to 6%. The Mount Carmel Tunnel has length and height restrictions.

UT-153 has grades of 4-9% and is unpaved from Elk Meadows to US-89.

I-70 between I-15 and US-89 has grades up to 6%.

Don't try rt 14 unless you want a steep 4000 ft climb. The flattest route is through Colorado City to Fredonia and then north on rt 89 to rt 12.

Charlie-maybe it would be better if we knew what you were driving. For instance, my tundra and 31’ trailer were not taxed on my route.
