Route Hill City, SD to Buffalo, WY

Looking for suggestions on how to go from Hill City, SD to Buffalo, WY. Take Rt 16 or backtrack to I-90??

We live outside of Rapid City and there really is no bad route from Hill City to Buffalo. Taking highway 16 to Custer, SD then to New Castle,Wy and then along the west side of the Black Hills to Morcroft, Wy. is quite scenic and a good road with little traffic from New Castle to Morcroft. I would try it. It may be a few miles longer but than the other routes but a good option.

Yes, 16 will be the faster way out and also more scenic! we left from Custer to go to MT. and took this route. it is very flat and moves nicely with no traffic. otherwise you need to backtrack through the BH`s and that is a long drive especially if you already did the drive on the way in!

Better to have a bad day of camping than a good day at work!
