Route suggestions to Estes Park CO

We will be heading east towards Denver on our way to Estes Park on I-70. Would you advise exiting at say Idaho Springs and heading north or continue on to Denver and head north on I-25?

That would be the peak to peak byway. Scenic, about 3 hours with some stops from I70 to Estes.

It all depends on your schedule on getting there.
The safest route is I-40 and I-25 but its about 860 miles

The other route North to 70 is shorter but has a lot more curves and you are away from many things. But its 755 miles.
The last section you mentioned is no biggie.
It depends on what you are driving and your experience.
Your truck and little trailer should have a problem.
Sounds like you are worried about something but either route is good.

You have to decide.

Strongly encourage you to head north from Idaho Spgs instead of heading all the way to I-25. The drive will be slower with plenty of mountain-like driving but much more scenic (you'll be on Peak-to-Peak scenic highway). There will be a few smaller towns along the way with beautiful Colorado scenery along the way.

Route suggestions to Estes Park CO

My starting point is different than yours, but our destination is the same. I will be going thru Pueblo but I am starting 20 miles south of New Mexico. I drove the route last year to Pikes Peak on a “suicide run” daughter saw the Peak on episode of Road Kill . Next day when I got off work at 1 we headed that way. About 11pm the next night was back to sleeping in my own bed. That’s 1400 miles round trip probably closer to 1500 because we were goofing and I missed my turn in Portales on the way up.

Enjoyed so much gonna spend several days up there in about two weeks. Then head to Estes on Peak to Peak Highway.
