Rv driving map apps?

When I was picking up my first 22' long 13' high trailer they had an rv there with the AC and antenna torn off from an obviously too low....bridge or something. Does anyone know of an app that you can program your rv height in? I would hate to come upon something like that and not being able to turn around. Prob not much chance of that?

The Garmin RV GPS ~~ put in your weight, height, length, etc and it will keep you out of MOST possible trouble spots. A few bridges and tunnels will not be registered but most are. Nothing will keep you from low branches except your eyes.

Of all the tunnels I have seen are well marked. I have a truckers map that list all the low bridges in each state plus I have the Garmin RV 760. If you want to see something funny just google a low bridge, it's called the can opener in Durham NC. It's very well marked and it gets hit a lot. I think it has a website 11ft 8in bridge

I love watching the videos on that site .. There like a train crash, just cannot look away. Especially since it's not me Hitting the bridge!

Rand McNally offers good GPS software also. Program will route automatically around low bridges, narrow roads. Good warnings if you approach hazards. Accepts inputs for length, height and width.

There is another can opener in Davenport, IA. Its marked in advanced 3 times fir about 5 miles, as well as all kinds of flashing light if you trip the over height warning. Idiots still hit it. Averages at least 1 a month.

I had a friend who didn't pay attention to signs going through Washington, DC. He came to a very low bridge on a very busy highway. He had to turn around in the middle of the road with cars zooming around him blowing their horns. He said it took a few years off his life. His wife wasn't too thrilled either.

FYI

Low Clearance POI - GPS Data

Garmin has an excellent GPS for RV'er. I believe it's a 760 Nuvi. You can in put all you rv's spec. and it will route you accordingly.

I recently downloaded the CoPilot GPS App, you can enter the RV height and it will run off the phone's GPS if wanted/needed to save data usage or if no signal. The downside is it loads maps in your phone so you will need some memory space for the maps. I have not used it yet with my TT just testing in normal driving and it seems OK so far.

I've been using CoPilot for several years and love the app. Not having a map when out of cell range is what motivated me to get CoPilot. Now I always have one wherever I may be and if choose to pan all the way across the country to view a route or local street detail there is no delay waiting for maps to download.

That said, I have never discovered the feature you mention where your vehicle height can be entered despite having the most recent version. Would you please point me where to look in the menus for that feature?

Thanx,

Ted

Forgot to add - The app is very easy to use and extremely accurate. It does draw a lot of power like any other app using GPS so be sure to keep your phone connected to external power else the battery will only last a couple of hours.

TandSH,
That's good info, thanks. Looking forward to using it with the TT. Attached are some screenshots off my iPhone on where the RV Height info it located.

GPS Mapping

Have Rand McNally 7710, easy to use. I have to remember switch to car - to turn off low bridge, width and weight restriction warnings. Also warns about curves and grades. Go to Rand McNally site for a video.

GPS

I use the SYGIC Truck and Caravan App on my tablet. It is stand alone app, maps are in your device, and it can be configured for truck, RV or automobile. The automobile setting discards the height, weight, width etc info to get the best route. Updates are lifetime. Runs about 129 but goes on special sometimes for 99. You can try it free for 10 days before buying on the Google App Store.

I just looked for the iPhone it is $140, looks like a very good app but a little spendy considering CoPilot is free. I think I will try it out though because of the 3d map screens, those look pretty nice, not sure $140 nice though...
Thanks for the alternative.

Thanx for the timely reply and great screen shots! I had to keep looking and looking to get there because my Route screen showed Vehicle Routing Profiles only for (Auto). I finally figured out to touch that icon which brought the selection screen shown to select any type of vehicle where I selected RV and set my preferences slightly different than my preferences for Auto.

You taught this old dog a new trick and I'm liking CoPilot more each passing year.

Regards

X4 CoPilot. 9,000 miles on our Griswold cross country vacation and had no problems with CoPilot. Worked great.

Smart truck Route is also good. I didn't see if you have diesel or gas. The Truck Route app also shows the truck stops along the way.
