We just returned from a four day trip to: Caspar Beach RV park
https://www.casparbeachrvpark.com/home
Overall it was a really nice spot and time to camp there. We were able to escape the dog days for a bit and enjoy a nice marine layer and beach bum lifestyle.
The park is enjoyable and generally well represented by the website.
The good:
- It’s a CLEAN park. Though it was packed with visitors and residents they really keep their facilities clean. We observed that the staff cleaned bathrooms / showers at a minimum every hour. They emptied camp trash depositories at a similar clip.
- The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the local attractions (tide charts and fishing spots etc.)
- The general store is really well stocked with all the things you could want for food items and RV related supplies. We needed a new shore water hose and were not disappointed. We got our item and it was reasonably priced.
- Beach access was stellar. It’s literally a five minute walk from your camp site to the water. Very convenient and beautiful. The beach is a cove surrounded by high cliffs.
- Proximity to town and sights was really convenient as well.
The not so good:
- The sites are really close together. Like really close together. When we reserved a spot we chose a back in site and realized when we arrived that we wouldn’t have any spots for a fire or outdoor seating. We were able to relocate to a pull through spot on the end of the aisle which provided much needed space to hang out. Note: you can’t reserve a specific spot. You generally get what you get upon arrival.
- Connectivity was spotty. They do have WiFi but it’s awful. I was not planning on being totally disconnected for the trip but it turned out that is what happened. Note: sometimes you can get a signal at the general store (verizon) but don’t plan on the WiFi if you need to work or research activities.
The journey:
- We came from north Sacramento. We took 5 north to 20 west to 101 north to 1 north. From the 5 exit it’s a solid 130 miles of two lane roads, the majority of which (70 miles or so) are switchbacks requiring a conservative 25mph approach.
All in all we really enjoyed the trip. It’s a bit of a trek requiring about 4.5 hours each way for bio breaks and the drive. We’ll visit again but it won’t be a frequent destination for us. In terms of price, don’t ask me that’s not my department!
