Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole via Big Piney?

Thinking of going to Jackson by way of Big Piney on route 189 from Salt Lake. City I can't drive anymore and wife would prefer flattest route. Any suggestions? I know we can't avoid elevation, just looking for the least stressful route for her. Thanks.

I haven't driven 189, but I have driven 89 a few times and I don't recall it being an issue. Very scenic drive also as you go thru the Star Valley. It looks like mileage wise 189 is about 20 miles and just a few minutes longer. I've driven it in a Sprinter motor home with toad.

The worst part of that drive is I80 up Parleys canyon, and up above Echo before reaching the WY border.
After that it's mostly easy hills and gentle curves all the way to Jackson.

Bizarre.

Used to live in Soda Springs Idaho.

So we took I26 to Idaho 30 to Soda Springs. Idaho 34 to 89. Closed during snow events.

Talk about back roads. Part of 34 was gravel but, well kept.

Goes by Grays Lake the Whooping bird breeding area.

Desolate. No big hills.

Watch out for ore trains.

I was young and crazy back then. We went to Jackson’s hole to ski a lot!

The spa at Lava hot springs is on the way.
