Sequioa national park

DW wants to go for our 10 yr anniversary. Need a "what to see" list and should we camp in the park or drive a bit and use RV park on outskirts?

We lived in Visalia, about 1 1/2 hours from Sequioa/Kings Canyon for 25 years. If at all possible I would try to stay inside the park if you are going when there is no snow. Not do not go the route through Visalia - up Hwy 198 with a large trailer or motorhome. Very difficult, steep, twisty road with lots of switchbacks. Go through Fresno - Hwy 41 - towards Kings Canyon and backtrack about 35 miles to Sequoia or stay in the Kings canyon area - it's actually the same as Sequioa. NO fuel in the park.

The park will be crowded during the peak season - you will need reservations. You could stay in Visalia, leave the trailer and drive the truck up to the park - about 1 1/2 hour drive. Several years ago they re-did the park and built rather nice lodging facilities. So it is possible to spend a night there.

It's one of those places that if you have never been there you won't believe it.

Once you are that far west you are only a couple of hours from the famous Hwy 1 along the coast. Hwy 152 to Morro Bay and then up Hwy 1 to Montery.

We took a non-camping vacation to Sequoia/Kings Canyon parks a year or two back. What a great place. We visited in early September and found both parks near abandoned. Roads are tight. Few places to stop inside the parks for food or gas. Plenty to see along the way.

Cadman99- was the "twisties" you spoke of, where they before or after Three Rivers? We would be coming up from Barstow direction and tvat looks like only route. Was going to stay at Kaweah Park Resort.

from what i remember, the south entrance, from Three Rivers is the "twisty" part and not recommended for RV's unless they are short, like a small class c or b and popups. we took our popup that way.

the north entrance, from 180, is what i remember being recommended for most RV's.

I can see some tight turns on google maps but looks to be after Three Rivers which is doable since we will drop trail in three rivers.

Kinda wish I would be taking my track car with us cause that looks like a fun stretch that I could break some laws on!

Three Rivers is no problem. Be sure and go to the Candy Store.

Note there is no water in Lake Kaweah.

Sequoia in April

We just went up last week, parking in Visalia since we have a class A42'.
Some spots in parks do not recommend over 22' in length and the roads are windy from three rivers side, but it is BEAUTIFUL and highly suggested trip .
