Suggestions for camping at Lassen Volcanic NP

Hi all - we're starting to plan for our summer vacation and we are thinking of stopping at Lassen Volcanic NP during our trip. I've just started the research and I see quite a few NP campgrounds up there so I thought I'd ask for opinions on the CG's in/near the park from folks who have been there. We'll be camping in our Cruise Lite 210RBXL for reference (smallish so most CG's should be an option).

Thanks in advance!

Suggestions for camping at Lassen National Park

Do you plan to dry camp, partial hookup or FHU? Area around Lake Almanor has many options and is an hour or so from the park.

I'd prefer hook ups - at least power & water. I have been looking at Manzanita Lake as one option but I hoped to get some input from folks who have camped there. I take it from the lack of responses that the label of "underutilized" for Lassen is appropriate!

Thanks for the suggestion on Lake Almanor - we'll look into that since there seems to be a variety of CG's on or near the lake. I will be somewhat biased towards NP CG's if we can find a good one since we have the "geezer pass" now

We dry camped at Manzanita Lake in early summer. The area is beautiful. The fishing was fanatic, the catching was difficult at best! No doubt this is a wonderful area. If you can get FHUs go for it. If not, dry camping definitely has it's benefits.
In Truckee, I recommend Coachland RV Park .http://www.campgroundreviews.com/reg...nd-rv-park-495

Manzanita lake is incredible. Quiet. Super star viewing! We did not miss the hookups. Must see Bumpass Hell when in park. Beautiful hike. Geothermal area. If you are fit, climb the cinder dome. We are over the hill now. Glad we did it earlier. Great park. Not a lot of visitors.

Check out museum in Manzanita lake and the visitors CD enter in the south of the park. Lots of history. Be prepared...cell phone pickup only at the southern visitors center unless something has changed.

Thanks all for the info! I was beginning to think nobody had ever gone there :-) I don't mind boondocking but I'm still in the planning stages for solar. Anyone have/use solar there?

Lived around Chester/Lake Almanor for years. If thinking about Lake Almanor area camping, make reservation early, high use lake.
