Travel to Zion from Iowa

Planning our first long trip with our RV. Question on getting over night camping around and near Copper Mountain CO. When traveling staying in hotels don't worry about reservations for over night stays along the way, are they needed with the RV. Looking for recommendations of campground in that area off of I 70. Will be traveling the weekend of April 8.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would make reservations given the area that you're hoping to find a spot. Note that most campgrounds in the area will still be snowed in through April.

Peak One Campground, Breckenridge
Heaton Bay, White River Natl Forest
Pine Cove, Breckenridge
Prospector Campground, Silverthorn
Lowry Camground, Dillon

Thanks for the advice, didn't think about them still having snow, may need to rethink a couple things.

Not a lot of mountain snow this yr . the is river dance down in Gypsum about 50 miles west from cooper mtn off I-70 . I think tiger run near silverthorn is still running . by mid April snows will be melting fast though any day could bring more till June . The Mountains /west have been in a drought for many years now and this winter did not change that . Early warmer weather will have most snow below 8500' gone . i always get back to Colorado middle of April and have yet to have a problem with snow then . Up to Yellowstone middle of may and always seem to have one or two snows storms that melt off the next day . yes spring time min the rockies is the best

One suggestion for you. If you are not making reservations then try and find a RV park by 4:00 PM. Most of them still have a spot or two open but by 4:30 to 5:00 those will be sucked up if its camping season.

Well, all lifts at Copper are open and ski season is still in full swing.

Places like Heaton Bay don't open until May.

Get through the high country would be my advice.

I'd consider this place:

Glenwood Springs West / Colorado River KOA Holiday

Very nice, with spots right on the river.

We're in Zion right now (4/1-4/8) staying at the Zion River RV campground. There's no snow here and it's been in the high 60's - low 70's during the day and low 40's at night. You will definitely need a reservation (at least for this park). Their sign out front has shown "no vacancy" every day we've been here.
