Westbound I-10 near Tucson closed overnight 11/17/15
If anyone is planning a trip into, or around Tucson, Arizona in the next few weeks should know that the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that a 20 mile stretch of I-10 Westbound will be closed from Tuesday November 17 at 9 p.m. until about 5 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18. Here is an excerpt from the notice:
November 9, 2015 Travel Restrictions Update
Westbound Interstate 10 east of Tucson to close overnight November 17.
First of six planned closures for bridge project will require 67-mile detour.
A bridge replacement project on westbound Interstate 10 between Benson and Tucson will require a 67-mile detour from 9 pm Tuesday (Nov. 17) to 5 am Wednesday (Nov 18).
Motorists traveling westbound on I-10 should expect up to two additional hours of travel time and consider avoiding the stretch if possible.
Eastbound I-10 will remain open.
This is the first of six planned closures to allow crews to replace the bridge at Davidson Canyon, which is located between State Route 83 (Exit 281) east of Tucson and State Route 90 (Exit 302) west of Benson.
Detour signs will guide westbound I-10 motorists south on SR 90 (Exit 302), west on State Route 82 to Sonoita and north on State Route 83 to connect with I-10 at Exit 281.
The $15.1 million project, which includes replacing the bridge at Davidson Canyon - located approximately 20 miles east of Tucson, will also include repaving three segments of I-10 totaling approximately 17 miles of interstate between Tucson and Benson.
The six full westbound closures are needed to allow crews to set girders and pour new bridge decks. The project is replacing a bridge built in 1961 near mile post 285.
