What to see while exploring Utah?
Hello all,
We're taking our Forester MBS to Utah for 3-4 weeks in May. (I highly recommend retirement!)
We've been to Zion and Bryce NP in the past, also Salt Lake City and the Bonneville Salt Flats (where I blew my Sidekick's radiator but that's another story). Our focus is on scenic beauty and we're looking for suggestions. Any thoughts?
BTW, we almost never stay in a commercial park (I'm too cheap), we prefer public parks, forest, BLM, etc. And we almost always boon dock while heading to our next destination.
Thanks!
PS Our rig turned two years old in Dec and rolled over 42,000 miles. We're using that thing!

Kathi and I will be there May 14th - May 27th. We have a 2016 Sunseeker MBS 2400R.
We are staying 2 nights in Moab, then 3 nights in Arches. While in Moab we will be exploring Canyon Lands. From Arches we go to Torrey for Capital Reef, then Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Sedona, ending our trip in Yosemite. For each of the National parks we have reserved rv space. That’s quite a task in itself! I think there are lots of BLM spots at most of these places as well. Can’t wait! Look for our license plates HRVE RV. We named it Harvey RV. This trip should be epic!

I hope there's a lot to see. I have 6 campgrounds booked over 3 weeks in June in Utah. Going there right after a week at Yellowstone.

Everyone covered all the national and state park recommendations I would have. Heber Creeper narrow gauge railroad is a highlight for me. It's NE of Provo. Provo is a nice city to explore. Bridal veil falls near by. Lots of Mormon history if you are interested, not just for the religious but the historic aspect. Snow canyon west of Saint George is one that lots of people miss.

Thanks to all for the great suggestions! Maybe we'll see "Harvey RV" there. We named ours the Bobmobile. Got bumper stickers to proclaim it!

Dead Horse Point State Park
In my opinion a must see. Near Arches (another must see) and not always on everybody's list. Camping right on the point and the sunrise there is fantastic.
Hint: Most of the movies that are supposed to take place in the Grand Canyon actually took place in DHPSP. Thelma and Louise for example.

For Scenic Hwy in Utah don't miss this
One of my favorite scenic highways in Utah - and there are many - is the Highway 89 leading out of Logan Ut. to Bear Lake Utah. It is so spectacular in the summer that you are distracted and have to really be careful and pull over to soak it all in. Then if you drop down into Bear Lake you will behold the Caribbean Ocean of the Rocky Mountains. If its a sunny day you will see the most gorgeous swimming pool blue water in this massive lake that is 200 feet deep. This is a treasure on the border of Utah & Idaho with camping available but no Walmart parking lots.

You can't see it all in 3 or 4 weeks. My favorites are Goblin Valley, Arches, Zion, and Red Canyon FS campground near Bryce.

We haven't seen as much as some here but I'm gonna put in another plug for dinosaur national monument which to me was simply incredible and unexpected... and the beautiful little town of Vernal nearby with the excellent Steinaker State Park and Reservoir nearby for camping.
Also ditto...Canyonlands and Arches national parks and the Town of Moab which can be an easy base for visiting both.

We are also headed to Utah in May. Sounds like there’s gonna be quite the fun group from reading other posts. Our trip plans are fairly loose, spending about 10 days in the Moab area before dropping down to Mesa Verde in Colorado, then crossing back into Utah for some time in Monument Valley and then over to North Rim Grand Canyon for a few days. After that we’ll shoot up to Yellowstone NP for a couple weeks and then down into Grand Teton NP for a while. We only made reservations at North Rim and Yellowstone. We’ll figure out the rest along the way. For us, this kind of trip planning works well. It seems we always run into people who have great tips on interesting places to go and things to see. Good luck and have fun.

North Rim
We took the southern tour through Utah and saw all the NP’s. We spent the most time at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I would not go anywhere near southern Utah without seeing the North Rim. Isolated, a tenth of the crowd at the south rim and the lodge and patio area is something to see. We were traveling on our Harley. After 10 days on the bike I planted my rear in an chair overlooking the canyon and did not move for two days.

There are so many beautiful National and St ate Parks in Utah you could throw a dart at the map of the state, go to where it hits, and not be disappointed.
