What would you do if you saw this sign?

I needed to get to the other side of Yosemite. The main road through is closed so I went to the next one - Hwy 108.

I saw a sign like that once in Wyoming. My ex wife suggested we get off the beaten path and enjoy some scenery for a change. I didn't have a trailer, just a station wagon. We enjoyed scenery alright----------- while sitting alongside the road several times waiting for the engine to cool off.

Ever since then I pay attention to signs like this. BTW, that was one of the numerous reasons she became "ex".

After tackling Death Valley yesterday (I’ll post about that in another thread), I wasn’t looking for a challenge. We had to change this trip. I didn't see a good way across Yosemite (only around it adding 3-4 hours) to get to our campground so we are staying on this side (east side) at the KOA at Coleville, CA.

I will say the man at Yosemite Ridge Resort was very gracious about the whole thing as we discussed with him, various ways to get there then finally called it off.

So much great stuff to see on the east side in the Owens Valley.
Mammoth, June Lake, Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, Bodie.
Day trip into Yosemite and do a hike in Tuolumne Meadows area. Lots of great little lakes up there in the high country. The Valley is such a zoo of people and traffic that you can't get anywhere anyway.

I did that crossing on a (carbureted) motorcycle around this time of year, about 15 years ago, and I don't think I would try it with a trailer, even our little bitty Flagstaff 21DS. There are climbing swtichbacks along that route that I had to take at 5mph in 1st gear on my Gold Wing.

It's a beautiful drive, but one more suited for a Miata than a truck and trailer. From the junction at Bridgeport, you will climb almost 5,000 feet to the summit in ~32 miles, and then descend 9,000 feet in the next ~64

That's why we Westerners kinda roll our eyes, when Easterners call something a mountain. Kinda of like the Great Smokey "Hills".[emoji1787]

I live on what’s known as Round Mountain. Elevation gain to the top...300 feet.

Looks less like a warning and more like a challenge. I mean, it doesn't say NO trailers.

Saw a similar sign in California trying to get back to Nevada. Wound up in a Nevada mining town north of Vegas. It gave a length to the back axle. I think I misread, several turns I felt like my front passenger tire was going over the cliff, while I was praying the rocks on the driver side didn’t take out my trailer. Then I guess about half way up. It cuts to one lane. This is where I saw one of two vehicles on the road a short maybe 30’ at the most motor home coming around and down. I was sure me and my 36 ft TT weren’t going to make it but we did. Very scenic route

Are pulling a trailer? If yes, follow the sign, DO NOT GO, especially 26% grade.
